You do know that the first amendment has limitations right? Child pornography and defamation are both illegal. Shouldn't the 2nd as well?

Why? Does it really make us safer? Switzerland has some of the lowest crime rates and they issue their citizens assault rifles. And yes Obama is trying to go after the 2nd, with ammo bans, attempting "assault rifle" bans, having pretty much all veterans diagnosed with PTSD so they and others can be ruled unfit, fast and furious which is a documented attempt to blame the second for drug cartels using American bought weapons (not to mention highly illegal). No one is saying that he's going to take them in one fell swoop, it's the incremental getting your foot in the door of the 2nd, then inching your way further and further.

There is no "common sense" reform to keeping guns out of the hands of criminals like Obama keeps talking about... You can make whatever law you want, criminals do and will get their hands on a gun if they intend to use one. The answer is not to restrict responsible gun owners ability to defend themselves and the people around them. Ask yourself, and be honest, if you were in that Charleston church, how glad would you be if someone was packing there and could at least put the shooter on the defensive, even if that person was shot and killed, that still gives you valuable seconds to escape. Instead people had to sit there and wait to die, while this guy reloaded like 5 times, it's craziness. And the main reason the NRA was founded was to arm blacks to Defend themselves in the south after slavery had ended, wish more would listen today. The only reason a lone gunman would take on marines, is if they are unarmed. Good luck trying to go after them if they were armed, you'd be lucky to get one of them.

By the way, I know this is unpopular, but I believe that if you do the crime you do the time, and that should be that. Once your off probation or parole or whatever, you should get your rights back as a citizen, including the 2nd. If your going to commit a crime, then a gun law is not going to stop you using one since you're already planning to commit a crime. And after probation and parole is done, your record should be wiped clean. I don't see the need to continually punish people for life by making sure that any potential employers can have a reason not to hire you. So when you try to make an honest living, you don't feel beaten down and have to accept a shit job that pays less than a welfare check. That would make me want to go back to selling drugs or whatever crime got me in trouble in the first place
