Cassidy has made a name for himself as somewhat of a “abstinence-only” crusader. Last year, he co-sponsored the Abstinence-Only Reallocation Act, which would award grants and special funding to public and private schools which stuck to teaching only abstinence instead of a more comprehensive lesson plan on sexual behavior. The bill, authored by perennial bad ideas machine Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-SC), has been tabled in Congress, but Louisiana teens aren’t in the clear.

Despite efforts by some legislators to address this problem, Louisiana is one of the leading abstinence-only promoters in the country. In roughly one-third of all schools in the state, students are taught exclusively abstinence. No safe sex. No birth control. Nothing but “Don’t do it.” And you know how good kids are at listening to adults when they tell them not to do something…

It might explain why Louisiana currently has the 6th highest teen pregnancy rate in the nation. And while most of the country has been seeing major declines in teen births, Louisiana’s has hardly changed.

Perhaps you should read the article before call others dumb ass. The whole point of the story is that the politician promotes abstinence only sex education that regulates the allowance of teaching students to use birth control. Given the freedom to teach sex education that would allow teachers to instruct students how not to get pregnant is regulated out of permissible instruction. He promotes education that regulates against telling teens to wear rubbers. Instead he promotes a regulation that only allows the teachers to instruct the teens not to have sex. That didn't work. What did and does work for over two decades is carefully researched sex education methods that promote abstinence with the reality that not all teens can be influenced to refrain from sex. Hence, the education is combined with instructions about the dangers of STD's and the negative results of early pregnancy. Taught with these concepts not only has lowered the pregnancy rate but greatly reduced the rate of STD's. Both reductions save the taxpayer large amounts or revenue in both medical and welfare payments as well as improving the quality of life for untold numbers of teens as they enter adulthood.

I taught my son about sex and told him abstinence was the only true way no to become a dad, or get an std. I also told him if he did have sex to definitely wrap it. Told him I wouldn't buy it. He got an allowance and you can get them in almost any public restroom. He is almost 19 and i'm not a grandfather. Knock on wood. Lol
