It is imperative that subsequent witnesses called have no knowledge of what preceding witnesses have said. Committee members from both parties have staff attorneys present anyway, but everything that occurs is confidential. There has been quite a parade of witnesses, some of whose testimony the person under investigation has tried to block or influence.
