Because this is an investigation. Like Mueller held investigations in secret. Witnesses cannot co-ordinate testimony.

Has the DOJ followed up the criminal referrals about this Ukraine scandal, the House would not have to do it themselves.

Before the previous impeachments, a Special Prosecutor was named (Cox, Starr, Mueller) held grand jury investigations and produced a report submitted to congress. The William Barr DOJ denied any investigation, a cover up.

Articles of Impeachment will be drafted in public hearings. This is the procedure laid out in the constitution.

Arguing process shows a lack of defense of the allegations. Why aren't Trumpians shouting about the allegations?

People from both parties serve on these committees and are present along with their staff, including attorneys. Of course, these are the same morons who don't understand the Whistleblower Act and don't understand that the recipient of a subpoena is required to comply with it. Depositions, under oath, must be taken in secret to prevent potential witnesses from concocting a story together. It is imperative that subsequent witnesses called have no knowledge of what preceding witnesses have said. Committee members from both parties have staff attorneys present anyway, but everything that occurs is confidential. There has been quite a parade of witnesses, some of whose testimony the person under investigation has tried to block or influence.

However, the question remains as to why these members of the House did not know and follow the rules.
