Even if that happens the GOP can filibuster in the Senate. It looks like a 50-50 split in the Senate is likely. That's not enough to stop a filibuster.

So there will be some semblance of checks and balances there.

Correct. It is the Deseret News that is the Mormon's conservative newspaper. (SLT is owned by the Catholics)
