School to host 1st integrated prom

This is a very small southern Georgia town. Back when they were forced to integrate, the school eliminated prom rather than have black students and white students dance together. Since then parents have hosted special racially segregated dances. However, the graduating class of 2013 decided it was time to end this tradition, and pushed for a real prom.


For the 1st time in more than 40 years the school will host prom, for both black and white students, together.

This school refused to host a prom because they would have had to have both black and white students. Since the early 70's parents have been having special segregated proms, the works, dj, dresses, all of it.

It wasn't "lack of interest" that stopped prom.

Why is it that some blacks feel that we need to integrate every aspect of black or white
society? Can we as black people choose to go to an all black prom, and not be called racist
for doing so?. Can whites attend all white proms for themselves also?.

Can't we have all black events, with people from our own race without attracting comments of being racists.

I am getting sick and tired of whites trying to infiltrate the black community, and our events.

I attended an all black church when I was young, we didn't have any problems with
whites trying to infiltrate the church back then. Why all this integration now?

Not so at all. The programs became private affairs hosted by white parents throughout the South. Thank heavens the bad old days and the bad old Katzs are almost gone.

They don't! All proms are integrated. It's just that sometimes the students have a lack of interest in an integrated prom and don't go. They go to invitation only parties instead. It isn't like this is limited to white kids. Black kids have invitation only parties too. So do Hispanic kids They like different muslc, they have different cultural practices. Blacks avoid integrated proms when the band is mariachi! When there is a sufficient lack of interest, the prom is cancelled.

Even when there is a school supported prom open to all students, the students might check in there if the tickets are cheap enough, then go on to a private party. This isn't an integration problem its a cultural or musical personal preference issue.

In the south and west during the 70s separate proms didn't reflect color. They were separated with some preferring rock music and some preferring country. Usually, the juniors would have one and the seniors having the other.

Workplaces are integrated, but you are aware that every professional organization has a black only counterpart where those of another race are not admitted. Hispanics have the same organizational structure. Do you think these folks admit black people?
