See we told you.. Mcdonalds is ordering 7K touch screen to replace cashiers

McDonald's orders 7,000 touchscreen kiosks to replace cashiers - Neowin

YOu wanna walk out on your job for more money. Guess what you now might lose your jobs all because of UNIONS who are greedy..

in so who gives you th food ??? who collects the money?? ? the touch screen??? just curious ...

in colorado there is a fast food restaurant call Arbies ... I believe its a mid west company ... anyway they put in touch screen ordering hoping it would be easier and faster to get orders out... it turned out to be a giant clusterfuck ... the problem was people couldn't figure out how to use it ...they had to have a person standing by each touch screen teaching the customer how to use it... I don't know about you but I don't go to a restaurant to learn how to operate their touch screens .. I go to relax and eat a meal ... sooooooo sales when up 40% to taco bell next to them ... theirs dropped by 50 % ... so good luck Mcdonalds with that one
Who carry's cash anymore? Credit cards debit cards.... and the cook was giving my order.

Oh these right wingers are hilarious. They think of themselves as "millionaires currently without funds". Which is why they have no empathy for someone making minimum wage, even when most of them are making minimum wage. Because they are sure that one day, their ship will come in.

You're hallucinating again!

Seeing that these touch screens are growing fastest in Australia where the minimum wage is $15.00 an hour gave me a laugh.

Look at it this way, if the minimum wage workers want to make a high minimum wage, they will have to get up off their do nothing asses and learn to repair touch screens.

What is truly laughable is that Australia's unemployment rate is 5.7% compared to our 7.3% even though they have such a high minimum wage. Of course, with having a much higher minimum wage, people have a lot more money to spend, which grows the economy creating more jobs and more profits for employers which in turn allows companies to expand and make more money.

What is even more interesting is that because of the higher minimum wage in Australia, they have a lot less people relying on government assistance. What a concept, pay people a living wage and they won't have to rely on the government for extra support.

Gee...I wonder if them NOT having a few million illegal aliens might have SOMETHING to do with that, hey! :cuckoo:

I used those things when I was working in Ohio for 10 weeks they are cool but the public will reject them. We like the human touch. A pretty girl smiling at us as she takes our order keepsus coming back.

Yeah that's why the drive thru is so popular.

I use the self check out at supermarkets and other stores all the time. It's faster and that's what people want. Get in get your stuff and get out as fast as possible.
I forgot about those... I avoid them. I go to a friendly face. Hey flirting with a cute girl cashier is fun...

...right up until you discover that the stoner bagging your groceries has put sandwich rolls under canned fruit, eggs under a canned ham, and raw meat with highly-toxic insecticide!

You mean it won't? That the asshole repubs on here aren't already worth at least 10 million dollars. How can they spend all day on a message board if they aren't rich? Why don't they have to work like I do?

I hear that some are unemployed, most are un employable ( I mean really, can you imagine having to work everyday with some of these hateful assholes?)

No, I think you are correct, these right wing turds on here are the proverbial "millionaires currently without funds".

But they are working hard at finding a job. If McDonald's will hire them.

Detroit Police officers start out at $14 per hour. McDonalds employees should make more?:cuckoo:

Yea, that stoner figured out what an asshole you are and decided to fuck with you. Good for the grocery bagger. He was correct.

i wonder how long each touchscreen will last....i work with touch screens they are sensitive little things...esp if you have oil or anything like that on your fingers....and they are really overestimating the smarts of their customers...in using them...after all they are opting to eat...food that doesnt digest

I have to say, I've never seen so many straw men utilized in so few words.

Gotta admit, rdean has a rare and natural talent for intellectual dishonesty.

Run for office, man. Seriously, you would be right at home in that environment.

And what do you suppose might be the outcome of such robotization?

Jobs will be lost.

Corporate profit will rise.

Government will increase benefits to the unemployed.

Corporate taxes must be increased to compensate.

Do you know of a likely alternative?
You sort of got it right. Except for your claim that "government will increase benefits to the unemployed". Not going to happen under even a Socialist President.
"Corporate profit" is leaving for 'parts unknown' by the millions of dollars a day already.
You LIBS in a Disney World when it comes to corporate finance. "Corporations" hire thousands of the smartest 'money-men' in the world to do what? Make sure the 'Government gets their profligate hands on as little corporate profits as humanly possible. And they are doing a fine job.
Two years ago GE didn't pay a penny in corporate income tax.
On another thread here I posted that the technology to turn fast food businesses into virtually 100% robotic already exists.
I wonder what that illiterate is thinking today who works at McDonalds? LOL!
Overheard at a fast food joint while I was standing in line: One employee to another: "Is a duck a bird?".

Right at home with the elected bullshit artists. Indeed he'd be right up there. Party over country, liberty every time.

.

Four things I'd like to know.

  1. How many people in this country are actually making the minimum wage?
  2. How many of these people are actually trying to raise a family on a minimum wage?
  3. Why have they put themselves in that position?
  4. How, PRECISELY, do you create a "living wage" when the living expenses of employees will vary from "just needing some cash" to "I need to support a family on this"?
I'm not really against a minimum wage. I'm not really against some mechanism that would increase it annually. I'd just like to take a reasonable, educated, sober look at the actual situation and move away from the naive, simplistic emotionalism by which the "living wage" proponents are so consumed.

Can anyone answer my questions in a reasonable, civil manner, especially the last one?

Of course that was going to happen.
McD, regardless of what you think of them, is a pure capitalist business with one aim; making cash.

If they see a possible or probable problem, they'll do something about it.
In this case, profits going down because the staff want more than they're worth.

Answer to #4? Staying in school...education. Choosing a course in life that prevents you from having to raise a family on minimum wage. Further? If you cannot afford to have children on such a wage? DON'T have children in the first place until you can afford it. Responsibilty, period.

LOL! You really ARE completely clueless, aren't you?

Automation has been an issue with unions for DECADES.

Businesses have long sought to replace workers with machines. One of the most noticeable examples of that trend in recent years has been replacing cashiers with automatic scanners in grocery stores. You've seen those, haven't you?

The companies save money when you do the work yourself, but you don't get a discount on your groceries because you self-scan, do you? Hell, you're actually working without getting paid.

So, go ahead and scan your own groceries. Bag them up too while you're at it. You've just helped the company with their bottom line, and you haven't been paid for your work, and some other poor slob has probably lost his job.
This is actually incorrect. My time is extremely valuable, and the 10 minutes I can save is much more savings than the hourly cost of a checkout clerk.
