FOR COMPLETE ARTICLE VISIT Cameron Harris: Senate Dems Unveil Budget Proposal for First Time in Four Years
For the first time in four years, Senate Democrats have finally produced a budget proposal.
Budget Committee Chairwoman Patty Murray (D-Wash) unveiled the proposal this afternoon which adds nearly $1 trillion in new taxes.
Murray told this committee this afternoon, "Our budget is built on three principles: Number one, we need to protect our fragile economic recovery, create jobs, and invest in long-term growth. Number two, we need to tackle our deficit and debt fairly and responsibly. And number three, we need to keep the promises we've made as a nation to our senior, our families, and our communities."
Her plan cuts the federal deficit by $1.9 trillion over the next ten years, and includes up to $275 billion in health care saving through Obamacare and $100 billion in stimulus spending for a "targeted economic recovery."
The one area where Murray's budget differs from House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan's is in dealing with the ratio of revenue to spending. Ryan's latest proposal, unveiled on Wednesday, calls for a balanced budget.
