McCarthy was just a minority party republican senator. He didn't even chair a committee. HUAC was a Truman/democrat invention and Hollywood fired communists because they thought they might lose money. When the democrat crusade against communist influence in the American social fabric went sour, the media managed to blame a single loud mouthed republican for the Truman anti/communist era..
