So the Bible commands in the New Testament to drink wine to heal infirmities...if wine has curative powers (and scientists agree that it does; see first two paragraphs here: Health effects of wine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ,) should minimal amounts of wine consumption be acceptable in the workplace on religious grounds that the Bible instructs small amounts of wine consumption (for health)?...

No, because there is plenty of time outside of work to consume the small amount of wine considered therapeutic. There literally is no need to consume wine while at work.

It may help the mentally infirm...the Bible commands it for "infirmities." If it heals mental infirmities then it would help in the workplace.

Like I said, the amount of wine we're talking about can easily be consumed after work. No need to do it during the work day, when it can impact productivity.

I think it should be up to the workplace. Nonetheless im sure OSHA would have a fit if they came in and saw a buzzed forklift driver that got OKd to drink by the employer LOL

What kind of work place and what religion DEMANDS alcohol containing wine?

...may help with mental infirmities, in the right amounts.

Does the Bible command it? Or advise it? Or suggest it? Is it religious instruction, specifically?

Is it as firm and unequivocal as the Biblical commandment not to issue same sex marriage licenses?

lol

I would press him further for explanation on that bogus premise, but I'm afraid he'd trot out that lame instrumental copy of "Light My Fire" again....

:wtf: :dunno:
Paul recommended that a fellow pastor drink some wine to settle his stomach (think impure drinking water supplies), hardly a universal command for all believers to consume it. There are some health reasons for drinking some wine, but it's not a Biblical command.

Workers in Europe routinely have a beer or wine with lunch, to no ill effect. having the amount of wine usually drunk as part of a sacrament has no effect at all.

It's true that some may behave irresponsibly, but the Bible does command it for "infirmities"....

So you've directly contradicted the first line in your own OP.

Well done.

"Do not drink water from now on, but drink a little wine because of your stomach and because of your chronic illness." 1 Tim. 5:23, Aramaic Bible in Plain English translation

That is true. There are those, however, that would extend that liberty into the "three martini lunch". Either way, it's still not something that the government should mandate. Let the businesses decide for themselves.
