(Note: In a probably vain attempt to bring intellect and thought to the election process, I will be posting side-by-side comparisons of the Republican and Democrat positions on critical subjects in the upcoming election. The words posted are directly from the campaigns (though some portions have been removed for brevity.)

REPUBLICAN

Congress must act. Our elected representatives in the House and Senate must:

  1. Completely repeal Obamacare. Our elected representatives must eliminate the individual mandate. No person should be required to buy insurance unless he or she wants to.

  2. Modify existing law that inhibits the sale of health insurance across state lines.

  3. Allow individuals to fully deduct health insurance premium payments from their tax returns under the current tax system.

  4. Allow individuals to use Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). Contributions into HSAs should be tax-free and should be allowed to accumulate.

  5. Require price transparency from all healthcare providers, especially doctors and healthcare organizations like clinics and hospitals. Individuals should be able to shop to find the best prices for procedures, exams or any other medical-related procedure.

  6. Block-grant Medicaid to the states.

  7. Remove barriers to entry into free markets for drug providers that offer safe, reliable and cheaper products.
Healthcare Reform

DEMOCRAT

Defend and expand the Affordable Care Act, which covers 20 million people.

Allow people over 55 to “buy in” to Medicare.

  • Bring down out-of-pocket costs like copays and deductibles.

  • Reduce the cost of prescription drugs.

  • Protect consumers from unjustified prescription drug price increases from companies that market long-standing, life-saving treatments and face little or no competition.

  • Fight for health insurance for the lowest-income Americans in every state by incentivizing states to expand Medicaid—and make enrollment through Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act easier.

  • Expand access to affordable health care to families regardless of immigration status.

  • Expand access to rural Americans, who often have difficulty finding quality, affordable health care.

  • Defend access to reproductive health care.

  • Double funding for community health centers, and support the healthcare workforce
