Smoking Bans

Should Smoking be Banned in Businesses?

If a business wants to allow smoking that's fine with me.

People can look for jobs at nonsmoking businesses if they want and customers can patronize businesses that ban smoking as well.

Freedom of choice. Period.

Sure, you can choose where to shop, that's fine; if you don't want carcinogens in your lungs you can patronize somewhere else, nobody forces you in there. All true. BUT...

That business, in order to operate, must have employee staff. And they can't be forced to breathe that stuff against their will -- unless the business wants to hire only smokers, which they can't do. So keep it out of the workplace to protect the employees -- who have no choice -- and the dilemma of what to do about the clientele takes care of itself. Problem solved.

no one is forced to work for an employer that allows smoking. Smoking is permitted in most casinos, no one is forced to work as a dealer or cocktail waitress. If you accept a job in a place that allows smoking, you do so voluntarily.

why does freedom confuse you liberals so much?

Why does "safe workplace" confuse you?

Is it because you get off on bootlicking? Or you just don't have the cojones to stand up for your own rights?

:dunno:

Government doesn't have a right to mandate businesses to ban something, even if it is for "the public's safety"

I really don't care that much about the right of a business to allow smoking question.

But you may want to re-word THIS statement.

Don't take it out of context. I go on in the next sentence to explain myself.

Did a liberal just tell a conservative that he doesn't stand up for his rights while just saying businesses don't have a right to what they allow in their establishment?:lol::lol::lol:

That has got to be the funniest thing I've heard in ages.

Wha...?

What the hell does "don't have a right to what they allow" even mean? :dunno:

It was a lot shorter originally, but then I just started adding stuff on. In hindsight, I probably should have revised it.
It means, why should a liberal lecture a conservative about defending rights while insisting businesses can't have the ability to choose what they allow in their establishment?

Those people also have a choice not to work in an establishment that allows smoking do they not?

untli smoking becomes illegal, it can be allowed in any place that people enter voluntarily. Do you comprehend the difference between a casino and a drivers license bureau?

Where did anyone say that?

And before we go on with this allow me to state the obvious, in case others here don't know: you're FIFTEEN YEARS OLD. You don't have the first foggiest clue about the world of work. You're not even old enough to smoke.

Go on....

After watching a story on the news about banning smoking in public areas- including businesses- forcibly, I realized how wrong that is. On government property- ie streets and government buildings like courthouses- the government should have the ability to ban it. But for privately owned businesses, they should be given the ability to choose. If they ban smoking, smokers can simply go elsewhere. If smoking is allowed, and offends people, said customers can use their competitors instead. As such, a business owner can then allow/disallow smoking if it would help their business. Government doesn't have a right to mandate businesses to ban something, even if it is for "the public's safety". Even that could be disproved by showing that smoking inside a building where everyone is okay with it does not harm those who actually care. And enviromentalists will now proceed to ask about factories pumping pollutants into the atmosphere and try to apply my logic to that. That is a different case, simply because potentially harmful pollutants are being put directly into the atmosphere, whereas smoking in a restaurant hasn't killed anyone walking in the street outside, as far as I know.

Nonsense.

There's no 'right' to smoke.

There is as much a 'right' to smoke, as there is a 'right' to abortion on demand, or a 'right' to have your employer pay for your contrceptives.

I'm not, but I work for myself. And no, nobody on a site I'm supervising is going to be smoking, ever.

Of course. There's less of a wait time in a casino and it doesn't close because it's Good Fucking Friday.

Do you comprehend the difference between being a "consumer" and being an "employee"?

or a 'right' to gay marriage.

Knowing you whiny control freaks you would not allow even a private members only bar to allow smoking.

I have no problem with smoking in your home, car or private club

I just don't want your stink where I am

How many times do I have to tell you that I do not smoke?

So then why do you have a problem with some businesses allowing smoking when other similar businesses will surely not allow smoking ?

If Coffee Shop A allows smoking and Coffee Shop B does not why not just patronize Coffee Shop B and leave Coffee Shop A alone?

That's what I would do.

What if it's a small town and coffee shop A is your only option?

Aaaaaand liberals hypocrisy on full display yet again in this thread. When you get rightwinger, Jillian and that C Jones idiot spreading their feigned outrage at smoking tobacco, let them answer what they think about smoking pot in public.

Make another poll and the liberals that are all concerned about icky smoke in their lungs will all of a sudden tell you how good pot is for you.

They think pot is actually good for you.

Watch this folks, I am going to start a thread and you will see the different tune that the hypocrites on the left will display. I am even calling the shot, and you will see it.

The left wing two step.

j-hudd-two-step-o.gif

No I don't think smoking pot is good for you, and just like tobacco, you are free to smoke as much of it as you like in the privacy of your home.

Private owned business. If you do not like the smoke, don't go there. I'm a former smoker and I don't care if smokers blaze-up in bars or restaurants. For Crissssake lets grow-up.

A business cannot discriminate in its hiring of employees by only hiring smokers. Non-smokers have a right to breath smoke free air, hence smoking bans.

Casinos are starting to go smoke free also. The new one here in Toledo is non-smoking. There is an outdoor smoking section available for all those who choose to smoke.

Won't be long until a casino worker sues his/her employer because he is diagnosed with lung cancer due to the second hand smoke. That will put an end to smoking in casinos if nothing else does first.
