Smoking Bans

Should Smoking be Banned in Businesses?

Nonsense.

There's no 'right' to smoke.

no. there isn't, nor should there be. saying so is just whining and stamping his foot.

that said, it's a legal activity and i do think businesses should be allowed to have smoking sections if they choose to.
it's also interesting to see that this is where most people seem to fall, at least in this poss. interestingly, the number of people who so far say it should be business choice is right now almost twice the number of the other categories put together.... not that it's a scientific poll, but i do think it's interesting.

Having a smoking section is like having a peeing section in a pool

Constantly repeating the same stupid one-liner does not make it less-stupid, stupid!

After watching a story on the news about banning smoking in public areas- including businesses- forcibly, I realized how wrong that is. On government property- ie streets and government buildings like courthouses- the government should have the ability to ban it. But for privately owned businesses, they should be given the ability to choose. If they ban smoking, smokers can simply go elsewhere. If smoking is allowed, and offends people, said customers can use their competitors instead. As such, a business owner can then allow/disallow smoking if it would help their business. Government doesn't have a right to mandate businesses to ban something, even if it is for "the public's safety". Even that could be disproved by showing that smoking inside a building where everyone is okay with it does not harm those who actually care. And enviromentalists will now proceed to ask about factories pumping pollutants into the atmosphere and try to apply my logic to that. That is a different case, simply because potentially harmful pollutants are being put directly into the atmosphere, whereas smoking in a restaurant hasn't killed anyone walking in the street outside, as far as I know.

Apparently you are not aware that second hand smoke can lead to lung cancer. The right of the non-smoker to breath clean air outweighs any right a smoker has to smoke in every single instance except one, and that is the smokers home, if the smoker owns that home and it is free standing and has no other units above, below, or beside it.

It is more than lung cancer.....Smokers Stink

Why should I have to go out to a public place and come back with my hair and clothes stinking of tobacco?

Do you now support using government force to require all people to bathe twice a day in hot weather? Because I'd rather smell a smoker than someone whop hasn't bathed recently!

This is a dicey one but I would think a smart business owner would not want smokers clogging up his/her air where they serve other customers. I would think the majority of people are not smokers as they are now educated into the dangers of messing with one's ability to take in oxygen. That's the first question a doctor asks during a routine visit now... do you smoke? THere's a reason for that.

When the smoking ban was imposed in this area, many restaurants lost business, and waiters saw their tips crash.

Government can ban anything and everything as long as the people go along with it. It does seem strange that government seems to be reluctant to enforce laws against the use of a restricted substance, marijuana while cracking down on a legal substance, tobacco.

Yeah, liberals have both sides of that issue covered. They laugh at the right for believing pot should be illegal. Mainly due to the devastating long term health concerns. It harms more than just the lungs too. A lot more than that.

The left has somehow been able to convince a large portion that pot is actually good for us.

The same left (trust this, it has to with big evil corporations and white right wingers that make a profit off of the legal product) throws hissy fits (literally hissy fits too) over the fact that tobacco is legal. They express great outrage at the notion that tobacco is pushed on kids. Oh Lorrrrrrd do they hate that.

The liberal two step is they do not want people smoking tobacco in public. Hell they want big tobacco to go broke and tobacco to be illegalized.

They of course claim they are not on the side of people smoking pot in public.

Notice how they never hold rallies that pot should not be smoked in public? That guy in that photo up there, is he in public?

^^^^^^How about that slut?

The reason they do it folks, in their defiant manner is because there is only one thing the left is united about and actually stand for. That is they want to find any and all ways to stick a thumb in the eye of right wing white person.

That is it.

Think those smelly left wing losers are all on the side of smoking pot only in private?

Every one of your pictures shows people smoking pot outdoors. Cigarette smokers are allowed to smoke outdoors also

Where are your pictures of people smoking pot in restaurants, bars and public transportation?

Do you understand what hypocricy means?

Many PARKS ban cigarette smoking. Are you too stupid to understand your own hypocrisy?

Typical conservative whine

Businesses without smoking are cleaner, have less damage due to careless smokers and do not have those nasty cigarette butts to clean up

Remember the good ole days with smoking? White walls turned yellow, curtains and rugs were ruined.

Do they allow pot smoking? That was Theowls point

Knowing you whiny control freaks you would not allow even a private members only bar to allow smoking.

I have no problem with smoking in your home, car or private club

I just don't want your stink where I am

How many times do I have to tell you that I do not smoke?

So then why do you have a problem with some businesses allowing smoking when other similar businesses will surely not allow smoking ?

If Coffee Shop A allows smoking and Coffee Shop B does not why not just patronize Coffee Shop B and leave Coffee Shop A alone?

That's what I would do.

Because he simply is not intelligent enough to figure that out!

that is probably down to your social status.

Sure, you can choose where to shop, that's fine; if you don't want carcinogens in your lungs you can patronize somewhere else, nobody forces you in there. All true. BUT...

That business, in order to operate, must have employee staff. And they can't be forced to breathe that stuff against their will -- unless the business wants to hire only smokers, which they can't do. So keep it out of the workplace to protect the employees -- who have no choice -- and the dilemma of what to do about the clientele takes care of itself. Problem solved.

no one is forced to work for an employer that allows smoking. Smoking is permitted in most casinos, no one is forced to work as a dealer or cocktail waitress. If you accept a job in a place that allows smoking, you do so voluntarily.

why does freedom confuse you liberals so much?

Casinos are starting to go smoke free also. The new one here in Toledo is non-smoking. There is an outdoor smoking section available for all those who choose to smoke.

I suspect that will go over like a lead balloon. Reality: gamblers smoke and smokers gamble!

Why does "safe workplace" confuse you?

Is it because you get off on bootlicking? Or you just don't have the cojones to stand up for your own rights?

:dunno:

Are you forced to work in a place that allows smoking? yes or no.

untli smoking becomes illegal, it can be allowed in any place that people enter voluntarily. Do you comprehend the difference between a casino and a drivers license bureau?

Won't be long until a casino worker sues his/her employer because he is diagnosed with lung cancer due to the second hand smoke. That will put an end to smoking in casinos if nothing else does first.

Considering that many of the casinos are on Indian reservations & therefore basically above the law...unlikely. Also note: having been in several, there is ZERO smoke and zero odor even in the areas that DO allow smoking.

I smoked for 37 years. The fact that smoking was banned virtually everywhere by 1993 was instrumental in my decision to quit. It saved my life. There are thousands like me, whose lives are being saved for the same reason. Lung cancer is decreasing dramatically. We have been slaves to the tobacco industry for too long. I would love to see laws prohibiting the growing and packaging of tobacco in this country. Now, we are poisoning the rest of the world...at a profit.

I understand you are pretty simple-minded, but that doesn't change the fact that constantly repeating the same stupid one-liner does not make it less-stupid, only more annoying.

Nonsense.

There's no 'right' to smoke.

Of course there is. As long as it is legal to buy them, it is legal to smoke. Just because you don't choose to do so doesn't alter this fact. Remember how wise it was to start prohibition.

I remember working with people who chain smoked at their desk for an eight hour shift. They would go through three or four packs a day.

Now, having to get up and go outside makes it hard to smoke a pack a day

And now back to the real world: waitstaff took about a 25% pay cut, literally overnight. Why do you hate waiters & waitresses so much? Why do you despise bartenders? Why do you want dishwashers & busboys to lose their jobs and go on welfare?
