He's running campaign ads because he's a simpleminded egomaniac who loved campaigning so much (compared to actually doing the job he campaigned for) that he obsessively returns to it,

to relive it.

Trump is an entertainer. Not a leader. He knows how to get peoples attention, but not how to get people to follow him. Trump has a boss's (dictators) mentality and skill set, but with no political skills.

So here we have a case of the Trump folks creating an ad attacking the messenger and then expecting the messenger to deliver it. Anybody with half a brain realizes what's wrong with their picture.

Perhaps I'm exaggerating that it would take as much as a half-a-brain.

Hard to tout yourself as the free press when you do stuff like this.

the "free press" meaning is "free from government interference in their reporting", not on what ads they choose to run or not run, is my understanding?

If they want CNN to run ads that put down the MSM, bring back the equal time rule.

The Fairness Doctrine never called for equal time. But it only covered broadcasts over the public airwaves, not cable. Cable offered a variety of viewpoints (at least it looked that way in the 1980's when the FCC dropped the rule), so the rule was obsolete.
