Far better to give minor criminals of all races drug treatment, ankle tags and help finding jobs.

Good luck giving them a job that pays better than drug dealing.

That's just it. Contrary to popular misconception, most people doing any serious time on drug charges were convicted for dealing, holding in the process of committing another crime, or are multiple-time losers. The idea that some sweet, innocent kid who never did anything wrong gets caught with a roach in his pocket and is immediately thrown in the slam for 20 years is nonsense.
