Stupid Police Officers

So you chase down a 20 year old woman accused of a road rage incident. She stops just past railroad tracks and you park your police cruiser right on the tracks behind her. You put her in cuffs and lock her in the police vehicle. Then you proceed to search her vehicle while she sits alone in the police cruiser.

What could possibly go wrong?

Yes, a train came and smashed the Police Cruiser
The woman survived with serious injuries
The same words Obama used as he began the war on the police.

Oh yeah................I see PLENTY of high grade STUPID every day where Im at. The "police" are just there for a free paycheck and nothing more.
Not only do they not GIVE A DAMN about the laws they are supposed to enforce, nor the people breaking them 24/7......they have NO CLUE WHAT THE LAWS actually ARE.

OUR TAX DOLLARS HARD AT WASTE!!!

I will be shocked if that woman doesn't OWN that town after her lawyers get through with that whole circus of incompetence there!!!

Turns out the guy was legally blind and the cane was to help him walk down the street

The sergeant was demoted in rank and given 7 days suspension
The female deputy was suspended 2 days
Both are required to take training on Civil Rights

A lawsuit against the Sheriffs Dept is pending

Two Colorado officers charged after train hits patrol car with woman, 20, handcuffed inside

The Weld County District Attorney’s Office charged Steinke with felony counts of attempted manslaughter and second degree assault, on top of a misdemeanor reckless endangerment charge.

Vazquez was charged with five counts of misdemeanor reckless endangerment, one count of careless driving, one count of obstructing a passageway and one count of parking where prohibited, the district attorney's office announced.

The district attorney’s office also announced a felony menacing charge against Rios-Gonzalez Monday. She had been accused of pointing a firearm at someone when she was arrested, the district attorney's office said.

A gross mistake, yes. I have to disagree with criminal.

Besides, we're releasing murderers and rapists from prison across the country. You think this cop is going to serve time because of a road raging lunatic with a gun?

Probably not...bad cops usually get away with it. Hopefully, if he doesn't get prison, someone will deal with him appropriately.

Both cops should have been nailed to crosses until their bones fell apart.

They may not prove attempted manslaughter but it is hard to deny reckless endangerment

The cop who parked on the tracks was not involved in putting the prisoner in his vehicle. At the time, he seemed surprised to find out she was in there.
No jail time but he was responsible for the accident and damage to the train and vehicle

Yes, because that's the way we do things now in the US. Release murderers and rapists, build statues for violent criminals......And attack and kill the cops.

Yes
That is why cops park on railroad tracks

People make mistakes, maybe you've heard.

This cop made an idiotic one.

Nobody claims it was intentional
However, gross negligence resulting in serious injury is still criminal

Gross Negligence

An indifference to, and a blatant violation of, a legal duty with respect to the rights of others.

Gross negligence is a conscious and voluntary disregard of the need to use reasonable care, which is likely to cause foreseeable grave injury or harm to persons, property, or both. It is conduct that is extreme when compared with ordinary Negligence, which is a mere failure to exercise reasonable care. Ordinary negligence and gross negligence differ in degree of inattention, while both differ from willful and wanton conduct, which is conduct that is reasonably considered to cause injury. This distinction is important, since contributory negligence—a lack of care by the plaintiff that combines with the defendant's conduct to cause the plaintiff's injury and completely bar his or her action—is not a defense to willful and wanton conduct but is a defense to gross negligence. In addition, a finding of willful and wanton misconduct usually supports a recovery of Punitive Damages, whereas gross negligence does not.
