Suddenly Swiss Don't Like "Free Stuff"?

Now just a minute.....

Switzerland! So perfect. The "correct" balance of free enterprise and socialism where there is no poverty and everybody smiles as they pay their taxes as though it were their religion! Yeah, that Switzerland!

But the Swiss seem to have had enough:

Swiss Vote 'No' To Guaranteed Monthly Income

"Proposals which would force the Swiss government to pay each of its citizens the equivalent of nearly £1,800 every month, whether or not they are working, appear to have been rejected.


The introduction of an unconditional national income had been proposed as a means of tackling poverty and inequality, but was derided as "a Marxist dream" by critics.


Partial results showed 78% of Swiss voters had opposed the plan in a national referendum."

(note, emphasis added to the percentage to make it less easily overlooked)

Oh dear - can America not spare the money to jet Nutty Old Uncle Berrnie to Switzerland to talk sense to them? Is Air Force One so busy with golfing trips that it can't be spared for a day to help this obvious wrong?

Will this trend go global?

Could it happen here?

I think I saw a new thread here that proposes we do just that - or at least asks why not? I think the Swiss people made a good decision ... too bad a lot of other countries don't wake up and smell the coffee and try for a non-socialist/communist ... including America.
