The Swiss have compulsory military service. After they've completed this, the previously used gun can be converted to a privately owned gun, which is why the gun ownership is so high already in Switzerland.

In 2011 the Swiss had a referendum to tighten gun control, the referendum itself was titled Für den Schutz vor Waffengewalt - For the protection against gun violence. The Swiss voted 56% against tightening gun control - ARE YOU LISTENING OBAMA? - only the usual suspects voted in favour ie. Leftists and the Greens....thankfully Switzerland has no history of Leftism, they're consistently hammered in all elections.

I have and it's a beautiful country with amazing people - even in the French cantons.

Yes I've got many Swiss friends, mainly in the German Cantons, including the tiniest Canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden. The Swiss in 2009 actually had a referendum against the construction of Minarets....57% voted in favour. The Canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden delivered a 71% vote in favour, the highest in all of Switzerland. They are a predominantly Christian nation, and always have been.

Yes Switzerland is both beautiful and charming.

A very beautiful and charming European nation also, is the Alpine nation of Slovenia, an absolute gem.
