I read a lot of threads where recent history is discussed and in particular the civil rights campaign.
Those on the right make great play that the Democratic party of the time, particularly in the south, were a big obstacle to fairness and progress.
Those on the left counter this by stating that both parties have changed in the past 50 years and that the Republicans are now the party of racism.
I will be honest here and state that this is generally evident in the actions of both parties. Certainly on USMB the posters with the most racist tendencies are on the right and are big fans of trump.
Now its unusual for parties to switch like this.
My question is when did this happen and what caused the shift ?
