Ignoring for a moment the relative wisdom, stupidity, compassion, or economic impacts of welcoming some number of Syrian refugees into the U.S., I would like to call your attention to the basic structure of the public dialog. It is always the same:

The Right: These are the reasons why it is a bad idea to invite XXX Syrian refugees into the U.S. at this time...

The Left: You are a bunch of racist, neurotic, xenophobic Troglodytes!

The Right: More than 70% of the applicants for refugee status in Europe have been MEN, most of them fighting age. There is no reason to suppose that a majority of the applicants to come here will not be similar.

The Left: You are a bunch of pansies, afraid of a small group of widows and orphans!

The Right: We have evidence that a large number of Muslim terrorists have already come into the U.S. through Mexico, and there is no reason to think they will not use the Syrian crisis to accomplish the same thing. In fact, at least one of the Paris terrorists came into Europe claiming to be a Syrian refugee.

The Left: You are a bunch of anti-Islamic religious bigots!

One side attempts to use facts and logic, the other uses ad hominem attacks. It is always the same. And when the Right tries the same thing in response, the MSM goes into hysterics about the name-calling bastards on the Right.

2012...

Mitt Romney: Barry O'Bama is a nice guy who is inexperienced, unqualified, and a socialist;

Barry: Mitt Romney is evil, and used his wealth to take away peoples' jobs and healthcare.

Say what you want about the Trumpster, he doesn't usually allow himself to get sucked into this no-win "argument."

And it has been thus on many topics for many decades now, and our country gradually falls apart, almost unrecognizable from what it was in 970.
