Zone1 The 7 deadly sins. Is envy the worst?

All of them. Every "standard" you ever heard of was set that way because people decided it should be. Some have more reasoning behind them than others but all of them are subjective.
Then name a standard you believe is subjective and then explain to me why you believe it is subjective.

Take your hat off when you're indoors.
Which is based upon showing respect and in some cases being courteous. That's the standard. There's nothing subjective about that standard.

But way to swing for the fences. How about adulatory? Is that one subjective too?

In what way does doffing your hat show respect? YOu just listed off part of the standard, nt the reason for it.

It's entirely arbitrary. Somebody decided taking hat's off indoors was respectful.

Subjective.

Adultery is basically the same. It feeds from the culture of monogamy which is itself merely a subjective custom.

No, showing respect isn't subjective. Not showing respect leads to conflicts. Same for adulatory. You can expect conflicts and drama when you don't show respect for others or cheat on your wife. That's not subjective. That's reality.

showing respect isn't subjective.
This isn't about that. Nice attempt at changing the discussion though.

Now back on track:

This is about how you show respect. Why is it taking your hat off and not bowing or making some other signal?

The standard is to remove the hat, the logic or reason was to show respect. The standard is not to cheat on your wife. The logic and reason is to honor one's commitment. The experience is that when one doesn't show respect or honor their commitment then drama and conflict follows.

In some cultures it is bowing that is done to show respect. The standard is still the same. And deviance from the standard still produces the predictable surprises that the standard was established to prevent.

Why the hat?

Why marriage in the first place?

This is all arbitrary stuff.

Is it? How?

I only believe that because it's true.

Name one that isn't.
I already did. Adultery. Or how about if the o-rings on the solid booster rockets of the Challenger ever show signs of heat, the shuttles will be grounded?
