The America We Thought We Knew Is Gone

Hillary Clinton supporters react to early poll results on election night at the Javits Center in New York on Nov. 8, 2016.

Because countries are not people, itā€™s tricky to translate whatever ā€œloving oneā€™s countryā€ meansā€”itā€™s quite abstractā€”into the language of heartbreak. It sounds melodramatic. What can heartbreak mean as a civic matter? And yet it is what I feel.

A corrupt but weak presidentā€”this has been my comfort, his weaknessā€”has been given a gift that will make him strong. After upholding the travel ban, weakening labor unions, and allowing crisis pregnancy centers to misrepresent themselves to women seeking help, Justice Anthony Kennedy announced he was retiring before the midterm elections. That decision empowers a reality-television star who lost the popular vote by millions to reform the Supreme Court for at least a generationā€”a court that rather than rebut his claim to power has affirmed it. In his own branch, he asked James Comey for a loyalty oath and lamented not getting one from Jeff Sessions, whom he has repeatedly condemned for recusing himself in the Russia investigation, saying he never would have hired him as attorney general had he known. There is every reason to think he will do the same for a Supreme Court nominee. When Neil Gorsuchā€”who took the seat Mitch McConnell withheld from Merrick Garlandā€”seemed to distance himself from the man who offered him the robes, Donald Trump reportedly considered pulling the nomination. Trump has said he will pardon himself if he needs to, a controversial stance that would likely need approval from the high court. Now he has been given a way to assure it. He holds the power over the person who can rubber-stamp him into invulnerability.

The capitulation of two branches of government to a terrifying third, elected by a minority, is not how our government was envisioned. That is frightening. It is also, depending on the America you want to live in, painful.

Sad, painful, and stressful. This damage will last for decades - maybe generations. This article is worth reading in its entirety. What do you think?

This article is a fallacy.

America was envisioned exactly this way. A majority of people in a majority of states voted for Donald Trump.

You people really need help.

The problem is the OP'er is still in denial about how the President is Elected.

Those like the OP'er will toss around the Popular Vote while ignoring that California swung that vote to Hillary, and that is why our Founding Fathers created the system we have to prevent bigger States from dictating to the smaller States who would sit in the Oval Office.

When Hillary lost the Electoral College the left came out denouncing the System by saying it was built on racism but it is the same system that Obama won twice with.

What the OP'er can not accept is the reality America is not blue and much of it is either red or purple.

Also those like the OP'er will peddle the MSM spin on Russian influence while pointing to Trump but was Trump the puppet of Putin or was the real threat from the Green Party Candidate Jill Stein and her Socialist *** wink, wink *** friend Bernie Sanders?

As the OP'er fears Trump next selection to the USSC maybe the OP'er should take a moment and realize Trump is not Pence!

Also maybe the OP'er should realize Trump leanings is more Nixon\Reagan and less Pence Social Conservatism.

Sure I dislike Trump McCarthyist style but for such ignorance to be written by the left to say our America is gone, well they said the same thing during George W. Bush years, but when Obama won then America was great again.

In the end Socialist Voters scream in fear when the opposition party gain control but with their ignorance they fail to see Trump is not their bighest worry, and if Pence ever gains control of the Oval Office those like the OP'er will realize Trump was the least of their worries.

So is America dead, gone or is she just reverting back to what she was before World War I or FDR days before and during World War II where we as a country we take less of a role on the World Stage?

I do not agree with Trump but the hysteria from the fringe elements of our society make me want to defend Trump for the simple fact Trump is another Nixon and sure that is dangerous but it also can lead to better things if nutters could stop and think for a damn moment!

You think your flying grandpa waved his magic wand?

Dafuq is wrong with you skippy.

Yes I do, Iā€™ve seen his work many times, I have a deep understanding of His spirit in me, thank God I figured it out before it was too late....

The people in Isis say their god talks to them too.

You aren't considering murdering people by the thousands to 'please your god' are you?

I certainly will, Vastator: I have it marked.
I'll hold you to it. "No path to victory..."
As McConnell points out, "This is not a presidential election, it's a different one." And Donald's EV power is switched off for this one. It is a PV election. :)
Indeed. But first one needs to look at what's up for grabs. Then transpose those numbers with real, main street popularity of Trumps policies, coupled with the direction the people as a whole want to see the country move. Being 3 times as enraged as the voter next to you; still only nets you one vote...

If there is no religion

no family

no tradition

no Christianity

yes the America we thought we knew is gone

Only in your tiny brains do think think those things don't exist. You weirdos are so brainwashed you believe up is down and wrong is right. Only utter pity for you.

Here is wishing you the best in finding a doctor who can help you get your head out of your ass.

None of which removes that the election is a referendum of Trump. Everyone knows the economy is based on the Obama recovery and that Trump's policies are increasing inflation, higher prices for families, and a coming recession.

Add in the Mueller report being released 4 to 6 weeks before the election, the GOP will be scrambling to catch up.

Actually they donā€™t ā€œknowā€ that. In fact thatā€™s highly improbable, and heavily debatable. The voters often attribute their financial comfort to the actions of the man in charge at the time anyhow. So even if your claim were true; which it isnā€™t, the majority of voters will perceive it differently anyhow.

Yes, everyone one who is honest knows that. It's not debatable. And if you are talking about right now, Trump remains in the low forties despite a good Obama economy, his non-trumpunt at Singapore, continuing losses in manufacturing job, rising inflation and prices.

The tax refrom and SCOTUS will be his major victories, and that affects maybe 40% of the voters at the most.

With Mueller's report coming in ten weeks, Trump et al having a very narrow window to do something for all Americans that can outweight the Trump train wreck.

And now that Trump is campaigning on punishing women who get abortions, well, we will see how that works.

Run along...

GWV, let it go. You can't convert an atheist. Think about your own experience.

Obama was leading us down the path to become Venezuela. I am glad that is now GONE!

ā€œThe America We Thought We Knew Is Goneā€

True.

The Republic and the rule of law will be restored before the end of this century, but itā€™s tragic millions of Americans will have their rights and protected liberties needlessly violated by government overreach and excess until that happens.

We are making America great again.

We are going to control our borders.

The illegal spics are gonna be kicked out.

The Spooks have to get a job.

Zero was a blight on America...The Donald is the Cure.

"Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord

He is trampling out the vintage where the Grapes of Wrath are stored.

He hath loosed the fateful lightning of his terrible swift sword

His truth is marching on...

(Everybody join in the chorus)

Glory, Glory Hallelujah...
Glory, Glory Hallelujah...
Glory, Glory Hallelujah
His truth is marching on.
And the racist low information rwnj will rule the land! Praise Cheeto Jesus!
