The Good Samaritan and how it influences your political beliefs.

Only the people next door are my neighbors.

People in other towns states or countries are not my neighbors

The parable is wrong

The Jews and the Samaritans weren't really neighbors.

What is "wrong" about the lesson?
You just said it yourself they really weren't neighbors.

So calling them neighbors is incorrect

They were enemies, but the Samaritan still did the right thing. The Bible teaches love your enemies.. pray for your enemies.
Then why call them neighbors when you acknowledged that they weren't neighbors but enemies?

It depends on context. Mexico is a US neighbor.. so is Canada.

I shouldn't have to explain this.
Those are countries not people.

No one who lives in Canada is my neighbor.

You're not thinking.. Lebanon is Israel's neighbor.
Once again those are countries not people

So it was told to explain what being a good neighbour was all about.

How does it influence how you deal with your neighbours and how do you modify your behaviour to keep within the teachings ? How does your politics reflect this ?
Socialism is the marriage of politics and virtue. Relativistic virtue that is. Socialism is your religion and politics is your alter. It's super fucked up. The only legal religion is socialism.

Socialism codifies so much of this. My taxes help people I have never even met. That is the essence of being a Good Samaritan.
So, the wealthy people - those in the highest tax brackets - are the good Samaritans.
They might be.
And the people who don't pay taxes at all - welfare recipients, children, John Kerry, etc, are not good Samaritans.
They will be one day. People grow up, people get jobs.

One of the most famous footballers in the UK is a young man called Marcus Rashford. He was brought up on benefits by a single mother.

He has donated millions to childrens charities and brought about a change in government policy through his work. Bought his Mam a house as well. He is a Good Samaritan.

Too deep for me.

you first,,
I try and vote for policies that help people. I recognise that it is an unfair world but I do my little bit.
You are gravely mistaken if you think you can delegate your responsibilities to politicians.
We have to be on our guard. There are some politicians who do not get it at all.

But they're not good Samaritans now. That's a shame.

Good thing he didn't die while on welfare, or he would not have been a good Samaritan.

Or a mass murderer or a brain surgeon.

Yea, I hear ya, Mate.

Whatever would we have done without government deciding for us who the good Samaritans are.

We know the answer to that. People starved or were sent to the workhouse or died from all sorts of diseases that we dont see anymore. Is rickets still a thing ?

All of this in the UK which was the richest country on earth at the time and controlled most of the world.

Oliver Twist was social comment not entertainment.

I noticed that most didn't get the meaning of the parable. How is that possible?
Yea, I think it's one of the simpler parables to comprehend, even when considering that all the parables are about the kingdom of God.

Samaritans and Jews were at odds, of course, yet the Samaritan was more neighborly to the Jew than the Jews were. That's the kingdom, essentially, from which the dogs, sorcerers, and other evildoers are cast out, just like those two Jews.
bullshit-----interestingly I have had---in the past---a long conversation with a real PRESENT
day Karaite on line. For the record----they (the jews and karaites) never did the christian thing
that took place in the BRITISH piles. Jews and Samaritans have been getting on well for the
past 2000 years

Where were they living? Not in Palestine.
what are you calling "palestine" are you a ROMAN?

Syrians and Greeks also called it Palestine as did the British and the Turks.

Even Chaucer and Shakespeare called it Palestine.
Do you actually IMAGINE you made a point?-----the "HOLEY ROMAN EMPIRE" established
the moniker. In fact jews called it "palestine" too----back in the day. It is a word that
arabic speaking people cannot pronounce. It is GREEK

Herodotus called it Syria-Palestine in 500 BC.
do you IMAGINE you told me something new? Rhodesia was once called Rhodesia. There is no more a RHODESIA or a "PALESTINE"

Grow up , rosie.. You write like you're hysterical most of the time.
can you DEFINE hysteria? surada
oh gee Surada is stymied again. I wonder what it takes to spell "palestine"
in arabic

rickets is still a thing amongst muslim women

If you are not a Christian then I am not sure what you can contribute to this thread. The parable is not "wrong".
You not agreeing with it is just your opinion and nothing more.
And it is your opinion and nothing more that the bible is the word of a god

It depends on context. Mexico is a US neighbor.. so is Canada.

I shouldn't have to explain this.

Countries can also be neighbors. China and Afghanistan are neighbors. They share a border.

My opinion is that this thread is for people of faith to discuss the Good Samaritan parable. It has no relevance to an atheist unless you want to admit that it is a pretty good guide to life.

damned boring approach to the discussion of literature-----APPLY BASED
ON "BELIEF"

Unless the border runs right along my property line and it doesn't

Well, you are poorly educated.
