The Good Samaritan and how it influences your political beliefs.

Only the people next door are my neighbors.

People in other towns states or countries are not my neighbors
This is not the message of the parable.
The parable is wrong

The Jews and the Samaritans weren't really neighbors.

What is "wrong" about the lesson?
You just said it yourself they really weren't neighbors.

So calling them neighbors is incorrect

They were enemies, but the Samaritan still did the right thing. The Bible teaches love your enemies.. pray for your enemies.
Then why call them neighbors when you acknowledged that they weren't neighbors but enemies?

It depends on context. Mexico is a US neighbor.. so is Canada.

I shouldn't have to explain this.
Those are countries not people.

No one who lives in Canada is my neighbor.

You're not thinking.. Lebanon is Israel's neighbor.
Once again those are countries not people

Countries can also be neighbors. China and Afghanistan are neighbors. They share a border.

I don't consider people living in other countries neighbors.

Unless the border runs right along my property line and it doesn't

Well, you are poorly educated.
The guy who lives 2500 miles away in Moose Shit Canada is not my neighbor.

Russia Has 14 (Or 12) Neighboring Countries. ...
Brazil Has 10 Neighboring Countries. ...
Germany Has 9 Neighboring Countries. ...

Governments deal with each other.

Some guy in some other country that you don't know is not your neighbor

oh well-----BLUES------that's because you are "poorly educated"
No it's because I know the definition of neighbor.

And I'm not dumb enough to believe some guy in China is my neighbor
I'm not dumb enough to be impressed with a little ditty written by a person who never
met Jesus or witnessed encounters between Samaritans and Jews. The Parable is not
actually Meaningless------it is propaganda. As to the definition of "neighbor"-----depends
on the language and its customary usage. Luke wrote in Greek

in fact no one living in the past 2000 years has
Luke never met Jesus-----he lived something like 50 AD in some place uhm
PATMOS? ---greek syrian. He wrote the parable. One time---on the road to
Glocca Mara----a Catholic guy saw a Protestant guy ----injured in the street----so
he took him home and put iodine on his wounds SEE? I wrote a parable too---but
I have never been in Ireland

Its quite striking that apart from maybe 2 or3 people nobody on this board has stepped up and embraced the parable. And certainly nobody, bar one, has admitted that it helps guide their political beliefs.

And yet, I suspect that if we were looking to affirm the commandments we would get universal support.

Why do Christians find the Good Samaritan to be so problematic ?

I don't think it problematic at all.

Because they know that you are doing this not out of goof faith, but as a weapon to get them to support policies that are harmful to them.

I don’t see it as problematic, you take care of others, people are all people, you help all. Governments can’t be good Samaritans, individuals and organizations can.

I answered your question, in my words. sort of rephrasing it, to change the meaning, is a troll move.

My answer stands.
