Republicans have this nasty habit of saying "Voting for dems has kept blacks in perpetual state of poverty and slavery". Yet facts don't support their theory. Red states have the highest percentage of poorest people in America. New Mexico is the only blue state that is listed in the top ten poorest states, excluding DC of course since it's not a full fledged state. Below is from Forbes.
The Richest And Poorest States In 2014 - Forbes
At the other end of the spectrum, Mississippi ranks 51st, overall, and across all three metrics. West Virginia falls next, coming in 49th in income and 50th in taxes paid per capita. Alabama, South Carolina, and New Mexico round out the five poorest states.
Exploring the income rankings further, New Mexico, Louisiana, Arkansas, West Virginia, and Mississippi have the highest percentages of households earning less than $24,999 annually. Similarly, Idaho, Arkansas, West Virginia, and Mississippi have the lowest percentages of households earning $200,000 a year or more.
==============================
Conclusion: Republicans accelerate path to poverty. Democrats offer opportunities for prosperity.
