The Sanders Phenomenon

Sanders is not exactly extreme. In Canada he would be seen as a reasonably left wing politician, nothing more. Sanders is a sign that Democrats and independents are generally speaking getting more left wing and Hillary Clinton will likely be the last centrist Democrat nominated for president for a very long time as the demographics of the Democrats voters is shifting very rapidly, becoming more left wing in a Canadian style.
Actually, it is quite the opposite.

Young white Democrats and an insignificant number of non-white young people are going left while the vast majority of the party is pushing back by either staying where they are, or even moving rightward(voting for Trump)

"Progressivism" is starting to come to a halt as the browning of America is shifting the Democratic Party away from blind humanitarianism("social justice")to the Democratic Party of old(growing and maintaining existing social welfare programs that benefit the constituency).

At most the new black and brown majority of the Democratic Party will be a center-left constituency, and the Code Pinks and ELFs of the party will fade into absolute irrelevance.

If a communist like Sanders can get this much support, this country is over.
Most of his support is from the more over-the-top Democrat standbys(i.e mediamatters, TYT etc),, not the aging and withering far left that run the colleges.

There is also a lot of Democrats who just don't like Hillary or their party's direction, so they vote for the "independent" Sanders so they don't have to be considered traitors by voting Republican(many of whom will end up voting for Trump because he is not even remotely a traditional Republican candidate).

Working folk ate sick of being told

1). Social security is a bad thing

2). Overtime hours should not be time and a half

3). Paid sick time off is bad

4). You can live comfortably on $10 per hour. That is good pay

They are sick of everything going to the uber wealthy. He gives working folk a little hope....like they actually matter. Whereas HRC and trump offer more of the status quo. Sanders popularity is great for the country.

I would say the Sanders and Trump phenomenon are in no small due to the declining intelligence and attention span of a good deal of the population.

Or, one could write this down and turn it around: I would say the Sanders and Trump phenomenom are in no small part due to the rising arrogance and disregard of the population by the ruling class. :eusa_think:

And I suppose you feel intellectually superior to all of them?
To those who don't really pay attention to the news or those who just go to partisan news sources so can just hear what they want to hear and those who just don't care yeah. I find it pretty sad that most don't seem to notice Trump and Sanders have simply repackaged Obamas hope and change theme of 2008 even though that didn't work out very well many seem willing to try it again.

The Republican Congress has lowered the bar so much, the country wants something so new and different; doesn't matter if it's a Socialist and a bigoted ego maniac! We lose either way! ;-/

Is Sanders:

(1) Simply a means for democrats to say, "I don't like Hillary"?

(2) A paid employee of the Clinton campaign who is paid to be such an extreme left-wing nut job that he makes Hillary seem "moderate"?

(3) A delusional old coot - but nobody told the nations elder adolescents who are now old enough to vote?

I can't imagine why anyone would vote for either HRC or Bernie, so I have no clue.
Bernie has some qualities of both Trump and Ron Paul, so people who are sick of the system will gravitate towards him.

Plus he seems a lot more authentic than Trump.

They also happen to like where he stands on the issues, such as health care, education and soaking corporations.

I don't see a big mystery here.

I'm not going to defend this Republican led Congress it's been shitty I will point out though if the Democrat led Congress before it had been any better we probably wouldn't have the Republican one we do now.

If I was 40 years younger I'd probably be for Sanders. I'd be thinking with the I.O.U. my generation is stuck with, you can take and shove your thoughts on capitalism. In addition I would be naïve enough to believe government's management wouldn't be as atrocious as Republicans claim. Finally he would represent change from the same-old same-old much like Trump does for a vast number of voters.

Sanders would be at 2% if running against a decent candidate he's not a phenomenon. The issue is Hillary being a lying corrupt venom spitting pit viper snake with a perv wife cheating lying pig husband, that turns a lot of voters off.
