I can only speak for Germany now.

Germany used to be about 50 per cent Protestant and 50 per cent Caholic.
Not any more now - but so it was for a long time.

From my experience: In our region Protestants were NOT insulted.
They were seen as brothers and sisters in Christ, who just had made the slight mistake of not being Catholic.
And they were seen as Christians, no doubt about that!

Later in life I had to see that this tolerance was not answered by many German Protestants.
Catholics were freely insulted this way:

- Catholics are no Christians
- Catholics are liars
- Catholics are very stupid sheep
etc etc etc

Do you know other typical insults?

Not really an insult...more like a big fat WTF?

Worshipping the woman chosen to be the mother of Christ, as if she were on par or just as important as God himself. She isn't. She was a vessel.

Worshipping a man in expensive cloth with bejeweled fingers and pointy "crown", groveling at his feet as if he were God himself. He isn't. He is just a man. Kinda like the golden calf Moses got so pissed off about while he was up on the mountain speaking to THE GOD himself.

Telling beads. Telling them what? Punishment by hail mary's. Why mary? God said put nothing ahead of him. Catholics do it all the time.

Confession. To a man. A non perfect man. Confession and asking forgiveness is for God's ears...not some dude in a cubicle.

I could go on, but I'm sure the sheep will be here soon to put me in my place for daring to utter such things.

I wouldn't call this an insult as much as a fact: I believe that Catholics are idolaters if they bow to statues. Just my opinion.

But your post doesn't paint a 100% factual picture. There have been many times throughout history that Catholics severely persecuted non-Catholics (including non-Catholic Christians). You've heard of the Inquisition?

I know all about that.

I am talking here of the year 2023 in Germany.
There is no such inquisition.

/---/ In the Southern US, where I grew up, we Catholics were called Papists. The population was mostly German, Irish and English.

Do you think you have some right not to be insulted?

I know European countries have no freedom of speech but why do you get your panties in a twist if someone insults you?

I don't know why you bring this up in regards to Germany aside from a few crackpots or religious hardliners - no one really gives a damn. Whilst in the USA it's a far bigger topic.

Up to the 60-70'ies it wasn't uncommon for German Protestants and Catholics to have a go at each other. Think about all the issues regarding marriages amongst these two factions. I was raised Roman Catholic and upon placing "critical" questions towards Christian teachings, I was immediately designated as an heretic - and being asked if my parents are Protestants or socialists.
Today in Germany the Roman Catholic Church does not possess the power and control it once had - it's membership is vastly declining, and as I had stated already - no one really cares.
