Increasingly, as long distance transportation becomes problematic the idea of doing a long distance commute for work is becoming impractical. The advent of EVs (not in any serious way a replacement for gas powered vehicles) will change the way the next generation of working families make their employment/living choices.
We have reached the top of a proximate performance curve in the civil engineering of human society and we are now discovering the exponentially growing requirements for the continuation of human prosperity.

EV's will not replace the cars on the road.

Once they become mandatory, there will simply be fewer cars on the road, and the only ones driving will be rich folk

Everyone else can take public transportation.

Electric vehicles have absolutely no bearing on work travel.

Businesses only make decisions based on money and it's less expensive to have work from home employees or to cut back on employees. Every employee costs money just being in the office. They use electric for heating/air conditioning, computers, charge their phones, lighting and so on. Everytime an employee flushes a toilet that's water they have to pay for to refill it and the sewage charge plus the toilet paper they have to pay for and the soap to wash their hands. Fewer employees means less housekeeping to be done. Fewer onsite employees means less chance of a work related injury. Companies save money dozens of ways by not having someone in the office or at the office less.

Employees also today want to work from home anytime they can for convience and to save gas money and time. Working from home also allows people to be lazier. So most people, especially young people, want the dream of working from home.

Look on a map. In order to afford a small dumpy house......many in CA move to Los Banos (45min over the mountain from Gilroy). Some still work Deep in Silicon Valley (100 miles one way in raging 100N commute traffic). Some leave home 4A-5A and still take 2.5hours? They try to leave early as it is typically worse on the way home. The commute over the mountain used to be top deadly route. Not sure any EV with 250mi range would do it consistently?

It's going to take until 2030 for the Shockwave of commercial office space to clear up.
Banks are overexposed to commercial real estate by means of bonds and outright ownership.
And real estate can't move while interest rates are high. But at the same time higher interest rates can be had elsewhere.... creating capital flight....instead of coming in its going out. Which causes deflation....a very huge problem economically as interest rates need to hike even more to counter.

Oh yes, there is an economic disaster to straighten out....however....it's not as bad as CCP or Russia or GB or European union.

They make our problems seem easily manageable by contrast.

No way with an EV...on sloped they fart right put to 60% going up and only regenerate less than 10% on the way down.

Yes!
You're talking about one of the earliest adjustments necessary to address AGW

The advent of EVs (not in any serious way a replacement for gas powered vehicles)
Few are able to accept that hard fact. Did you read it somewhere or is it your own idea? This is the first time what I've been saying has been acknowledged on this board.

I have made the change personally. Less $/hr but save on gas and tolls. Also more time at home. Used to be a 2hr commute...screw that.

A 2 hour commute?
How can anyone have a life with having to do that? I think you're smart to do that and be ahead of the curve. You should take all the measures you can to make sure you can continue that way.
Mass transit obviously has to come soon and it's going to have to blanket the country. But there's going to be a lag time of probably 20 years, due to greed and resistance to accept the obvious.

The relief you've found could be called the best definition of 'freedom'!

The alternative would be a good definition of being a 'slave' to the system.

No longer practical to commute

Yes, but too! No longer possible to commute for hours and still claim to be Free.

What is freedom when one can rise above the politics and face the facts of life that big business has created for the serfs?

There's a future for the left if the American people can free themselves from being captive to the politics of the two major parties!

Canada having a smaller population has escaped from the issue for the most part so far.

Should we all start to consider how China has brought change to capitalism?

That's the goal of the fascists in charge.

Don't forget the greenies. They're going to oppose EVERY increase in public transportation on the grounds that it will disrupt the migratory habits of a critter. They add millions and years to every project.

Your life is full of hate.

Am I wrong? If not, how is it hate to point out that environmentalists often block any expansion of civilization?

There are valid reasons to seek compromises to protect other living creatures. Your extremist attitude doesn't allow for that compassion.

Just the use of the word 'EVERY' shows that extremism is your god.

In the late 80's I would commute to NYC from Poughkeepsie. 2 hrs each way by train.(4+ hrs every day) 90 minutes by car....but you also had to pay to park. So a $350 train pass was easier and cheaper to use....but I always needed a ride to and from the train station in Poughkeepsie.

Then there were the delays....people on the track. Copper signal wire getting cut out and not working....traffic accidents. Usually there was one incident every week.
