Folks should understand that Biden, even with his 2nd wife’s supplemental income — he married Jill in 1977 after his first wife & daughter died in a car crash in 1972 — was remarkably poor for a long-term Senator (1973-2009). Of course he had a family to support, elections to run, and he spent perhaps too freely to maintain a Senator’s “normal lifestyle” in both D.C. and Delaware.

During most of his career he had aid from both corporate leaders and trade unions in Delaware to finance his re-election campaigns. That’s just the normal way ordinary politics work in America — though unions have been pretty much eviscerated since the 1970s.

Biden was always careful to play by the rules, though of course after he was chosen to run with Obama many new openings arose, especially from 2017-2020 when he was truly free to write books, serve as a professor / consultant, collect big money from speaking engagements, etc. That is the norm too.

As I’ve pointed out before, Joe Biden’s youngest son Hunter was especially unhappy that growing up he wasn’t treated like a young Donald Trump, and that the Biden family, while certainly not poor, was also not nearly as wealthy as most long-term Senators. He evidently couldn’t accept that he would need to prove himself in whatever field he chose to go into. Indeed, Joe & Jill Biden’s net worth has only about $800,000 after Joe had 30 years as a Senator — really peanuts.

My point is only that Biden was officially remunerated and rewarded just like all top politicians, and then only moved up to a different level as a likely future Presidential candidate. He personally had no reason to “commit crimes” that could ruin his shot at the Presidency and his hard-won reputation when he was finally old and wealthy. Indeed, it would be stupid and out of character.

The Republicans will continue to call him a “commie leftist,” the “head of a criminal family enterprise” — despite his supposedly also “suffering dementia” — and a shill for China, etc. But they will need proof to prosecute. I doubt they will find any.

Meanwhile, the systemic corruption of American politics, in which candidates need millions of dollars in contributions from banks, corporations and “dark money” sources just to finance their election campaigns … this will continue.
