There seems to be more stress put on limiting (or eliminating) the right of those buying guns legally than there is on those who buy/obtain guns illegally. It's the illegally obtained guns that are the major problem. A felon, for instance, can/does get a girlfriend or other fool to purchase legally then give the gun to the felon. There's all the underground gun traffic, as well. People who should not have guns probably have a dozen different ways to get a gun. Those are the problems that need serious fixing - not the guns purchased by law abiding citizens who go into a gun store and buy legally, knowing full well they have nothing to hide from a background check.

The only real way to stop it....arrest them when you catch them and give them long sentences. Japan has cracked down on Yakuza shootings by imposing 30 year mandatory sentences on gun crime. The bosses and the thugs, who used to go to jail on a gun charge and come out receiving a promotion....now see 30 years as too steep a price to pay.
