(which, you know, makes that hearing illegal because she sat on it after declaring how she would Rule, months in advance of it)

Those who are neither conservative nor Republican would welcome nothing more than to see the return of the Republican Party of the 50s and 60s, and to see conservatives practice again actual conservative dogma.

Indeed, protecting a woman’s right to privacy, defending the equal protection rights of gay Americans and the right of same-sex couples to marry, and opposing undue burdens on the right to vote such as voter ‘ID’ laws are all perfectly consistent with being conservative, because each is an example of government being limited and citizens’ individual liberties safeguarded.

Unfortunately, there’s not much hope of conservatives and Republicans abandoning anytime soon their errant, wrongheaded agenda and instead pursuing sound, responsible governance.

The problem, of course, is that Republicans of good faith and good conscience are afraid to climb off the tiger’s back; they’re intimidated by the monsters they’ve created, the social right in particular.

The GOP’s Faustian bargain struck with Christian fundamentalists some 45 years ago is a classic example of ‘it seemed like a good idea at the time…’

But when a political party abandons its principles and values in an effort to get votes, as did the GOP, and sells its soul to purveyors of ignorance, fear, bigotry, and hate in exchange for those votes, that Party has only itself to blame when ignorance, fear, bigotry, and hate soon come to dominate the Party, resulting in the likes of Trump as the Party’s presidential nominee.
