You have it totally backwards.
The more you slow an epidemic, by "flattening the curve", the more you PREVENT it from ENDING, thus ensuring the maximum death toll.
The best way to deal with any epidemic is speed.
The lowest death toll would have been if we had deliberately infected as many volunteers as possible, to achieve herd immunity, in the first month.
