The veterans are a good idea that should be explored.
America get's it's fondness for guns from the Constitution, not the wild west.
Those that can reason adequately realize the Founders gave us 2A as a hedge against the tyranny of a despotic govt, not to shoot each other dead in the streets but we do have a lot of idiots in the country.
In 2020, they said it was 81 million of them but there were lying.

I doubt very much if there are "thousands of Veterans itching to protect schools". I'm a Veteran and I have no desire to sit around in a tiny office in a school for minimum wage in the ten thousand to one chance that there will be an assault on that particular school during my lifetime. Recruiting a NRA member who has experience with educating kids about firearm safety might be a better deal.

America does not need protection from school shooters, no, what America needs is protection from rabidly evil politicians and the government itself. I am also a veteran and the last thing I want to see is our public schools become heavily armed enclaves. Kids are terrified enough as it is from the hell stacked on them by our ruling class.
