In the deep blue 16th district of California, there was a special election for California state senate. The Democrats thought this would be an easy victory as they ran a "wise Latina", Leticia Perez attorney against the Republican candidate - a cherry farmer, Andy Vidak. The Democrats out spent the cherry farmer by over a 2 to 1 margin. Republican, Andy Vidak soundly won. The best part is, this broke the Democrat Party's super majority in the California state senate. Republicans in the senate can now be the party of no for everything Democrats try to put through.

What makes this interesting is, there is a large Latino population in this district. Vidak refused to pander, instead he attacked environmentalism and other leftist hot issues. If more Republicans run with libertarian and conservative values, Democrats are in big trouble. A John Boehner, John McCain, Marco Rubio or Jeff Flake are the best way to turn off voters. Get a Vidak, who is not a SQRL (Status Quo Republican Loser), they can win.

thats an Agricultural area.....lots of farmers up there were kinda pissed off about the fresh water situation up there for that valley.... lots up there dont want that high speed rail thing either....

I think this had more to do with local politics than anything else. Vidak made a good case that the California legislature is dominated by coastal leftists who have little regard for the needs and concerns of rural folks. That message apparently resonated in that election. I doubt very much you're going to see that replicated in other Democratic districts in the state, particularly the closer you get to the coastline.

An anomaly. Mourdock & Akin could tell you how going to the far wingadoodledoos works out.

Why doesn't the Republican leadership get this!!!

Run a conservative!

Don't pander!

Explain that anti-illegal immigration IS NOT anti-immigration!

Pro-life IS NOT a war on women!

Opposing generational welfare is not a class warfare against the poor!

Cutting spending is not the end of the world!

In fact it is necessary to stave off the U.S. Government from becoming Detroit!

Reducing the size and scope of government isn't a talking point to be abandoned the day after the election!

Tell the F'ing truth! We're adults, we can take it!

No more Rommey's, McCain's and Dole's...no more Bush's either!
