The best way to develop a close relationship with God is to study those who had one and do what they did. The sermon material available today is sorely lacking. The reason for this is obvious. There is a war against genuine Christianity. You can have the modern wide road church and the world won't complain because the modern wide road church is of no threat.
Preach a sermon by Jonathan Edwards and it will be quite another matter. These days it is hard to find a christian bookstore and the mega bookstores have very little on their shelves that would be of any true benefit.
My suggestion is look up these men and women and read their books first. Acquainting ourselves with genuine Christianity through the study of Gods word and examining the lives of those who preached the Cross is the only way - to turn back to genuine Christianity. Nothing less will do. The church must return to preaching the Gospel. It's time to get the money changers out of the temple...
