I wonder, how many people who actually believe this article have actually been to a pride parade of any sort. That makes the article very suspicious to begin with (a vast majority here are family people and all they do is cheer). Also I truly doubt they were 'forced' to do it, most likely an excuse to make some extra cash or find a way to make someone else the bad one.

Also, pride parades are not just about gay, hell, there are a lot of christian groups that march for their christian pride as well. There are a few scottish groups to, there's even a jewish pride group that marches in ours. Does the pride parade piss people off because it advertises freedom and equality for ALL?

The fire chief was wrong for ordering those men into that parade, especially one which suits her personal agenda, you're out of excuses to make for her actions and those men aren't the offenders they are the victims. I think, though I could be wrong, that it is a requirement to have a fire truck/emt on standby for a city event. More than likely the easiest way to accomplish this is to put the firetruck in the parade. I think it is unfortunate that these men were annoyed by catcalls but at the same time I think their lawsuit is fucking asinine.

What next, Bass? Will they be excused from putting out a fire in the gay section of town because someone might flirt with them?

You can doubt what you want to but the fact of the matter is that these firefighters have a case for being FORCED into a situation by their employers where they were the target of sexual circumstances that they were unable to choose to avoid. And, we've seen the pictures. Hell, I chide MY gay friend living in san fran for his barely there costumes at pride parades. Let's not pretend that these events are wholly family events. Your assumptions about their motivations are baseless.

Most of the Northwest would be in trouble with that, we don't have a 'gay side of town.' It's spread evenly and you can never tell if who you are talking to is gay or not. Though I suspect most of our fire department is gay, they are just soooooo cool to people.

Which reminds of of what happened recently in our building. The fire alarm was pulled, no actual fire. So of course the dept. came to reset it like they generally have to. They were catcalled by three women who live here, and I know one took offense. But if they had tried to sue they would have been laughed out of court for it.

Gay parades don't need a firefighter on standby, they're practically on standby at all times and in this case they were *NOT* there on standby, they were ordered to be a part of the parade, since when are standby personnel a part of a parade? They can't do both at the same time.

yeaaaaaa.... BUT, if you were put into a situation BY YOUR EMPLOYER where you risked being catcalled and treated in a sexually adverse manner then they would still be held accountable. I'm pretty sure the firefighters could handle themselves in private and would not have put themselves into this kind of situation.
