My dad literally pounded gun safety into my young and dumb brain at age 12. This was after he gave me my 12th birthday present, a J.C. Higgins single shot .22 rifle.
Man, I learned a lot about life and death and nature and the reality of survival with that little pop gun. Sometimes I feel sorry for the people who never learned those truths. Some hard. But real.
I still have it. 59 years later. It's my oldest possession. And it's a tack driver to this day.
