I am thrilled about this. Thrilled.

Today is a day of real triumph and genuine achievement. Considering that Donald Trump sent buses to bring Representatives up to the White House and Paul Ryan picked up some six packs to celebrate just moving an un-healthcare bill into the Senate’s round file, what will Trump do to showcase something real?

What kind of massive, gold-plated parade will be put on as he signs the bill to keep the government running?

Deputy Press Secretary Lindsay Walters informed the pool that the president will sign the omnibus spending bill some time this morning. No press coverage planned, and the White House will release an official photo.

No press coverage?

No Rose Garden ceremony?

But … this is a triumph for Trump.

Okay, yes, it includes funding for Planned Parenthood that Trump promised to end.

Sure, the bill includes specific language to keep Trump from spending a peso on his signature issue, the border wall.

And all right, maybe it still funds sanctuary cities, which Trump has been threatening from day one.

Sean Spicer has been telling reporters every day that this funding bill is a big win for Trump. A big win. So why is he treating it as it’s a monster defeat for Trump and the GOP.

"The president got a lot out of this bill.” — Sean Spicer

Sure he did, Sean. What time does the party start?
