Because they're too lazy. Working on a farm requires real work. They aren't interested in that. But they also don't want illegals coming in to do that work.

The must want crops to pick themselves magically. And for produce prices to remain low even though labor costs to pick those crops will now sky rocket due to a labor shortage.
