Trump's energy department under Rick Perry has proposed subsidizing coal by requiring power companies to hold a 3 month stockpile of coal. This is an added government regulation (I thought Trump claimed to be against government regulations) that will help coal companies at the expense of natural gas, wind, and solar.
Their excuse is that it would help prevent blackouts during polar vortexes. This is BS because during extreme cold weather events piles of coal freeze and can't even be used. But wind and natural gas do work under these circumstances.
Perry and Trump are rewarding crooked coal companies because of the campaign donations they received from them during their presidential campaigns.
Coal is getting killed in the free market. This regulation, if passed, will only delay its eventual demise.
