Trump Tweets To Congress: If Healthcare Bill Isn't Passed Soon, Expect Your Obamacare Waivers To End

Would you Liberals support Senators and Reps no longer being exempted from Obamacare??

here's the latest Trump eruption: "I love reading about all of the "geniuses" who were so instrumental in my election success. Problem is, most don't exist. #Fake News! MAGA"

Congress ObamaCare: ObamaCare Exemption for Congress

Congress Health Insurance Exchange Catch
As noted above, it is essentially a the myth that Congress and their staff are exempt from buying their health insurance through the health insurance marketplace.

Just like everyone else, members of congress and their staff must purchase their coverage through the exchanges.

Unlike most everyone else, they use the small businesses part of the health insurance marketplace and a loophole to retain robust benefits.

It works like this,

Prior to the passage of the ACA members of Congress and their staffers were covered through the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, or FEHBP.

However, the ACA required members of Congress and congressional staff members to obtain their health insurance through ACA exchanges.

After debates, a final rule allowed Congress and Congressional staff purchase their insurance through the District of Columbia’s small business health options program (SHOP) exchange.

This doesn’t mean they get free healthcare or anything, instead the federal government provides a subsidy equivalent to 72% of the weighted average of all FEHBP premiums (or75% of the cost of the chosen plan, whichever is less; up to about $12,000).

Private employers on average pay more than 80% of the cost of health benefits.

In other words, Congress and their staffers are “on ObamaCare” and “use the exchanges” and they don’t get free healthcare, but the details are complex.

Trump don't know shit. They aren't exempt.

Congress was given exemption by Obama in an executive order. Trump has promised to remove it on Monday, maybe sooner.

I guess congress is about to get a nice wake up call that they are not special...

About dam time!

Didn't read the whole article, did you?

The result of the final version of ObamaCare (the Affordable Care Act) is that members of Congress, and their staffers, have to buy their health insurance on the exchanges along with millions of other Americans… more or less. In reality, they got to follow some special rules.

Then it went to the SHOP

While this is technically true, Obama gave congress an exception, which allowed them to have Cadillac plans, that we are not allowed, and they were done at tax payer expense through a waiver. This was done for their staff as well. It was allowed by Obama.. This wavier is now going to be history and our congress critters will be forced out onto the real exchanges.

This was a carve out when congress realized that they failed to give themselves special privileges.

Since when can a President make an EO on something that affects the budget that Congress can't even do without a 60 vote in the Senate???
Where did he say EO? He's bringing this to the people. Now, who is going to vote against congress being forced in to obiecare once this is out there with Trump pushing it? You think any of them are going to vote against that?

Where is he saying EO? How else do you think he is going to make a change in policy without the consent of Congress? Do you think Congress is going to vote to stop their own benefits?
He's applying pressure. They will fold. How many Dems are going to vote against being on the healthcare they say we all need? Hell the Dems may bring it up for the vote.

Congress is not going to vote in favor of something that is going to cost them more money... They only vote to give themselves raises.

An awful lot of Dems up for reelection in 2018. How many of them would vote against being part of the greatest healthcare law the US has ever seen?

Since Obama.

Narcolepsy much?

I thought you Conservatives complained and several of those EO's were found to be unConstitional.

They were.

But since nobody, particularly Democrats, mounted any serious protest - no "special counsels" - no prosecutions - then precedent has been set. You shitheels created it now suck it up.

Obamacare was a giant scam to satisfy the Insurance lobbyists, who essentially wrote the entire bill

Does the President have the power to make adjustments to the healthcare coverage provided to members of Congress?

I confess to not knowing the answer, but I would be fairly surprised to learn that the answer was 'Yes'.

We aren't talking about the Healthcare law right now, we are talking about Trump's threat.

How can you even say with a straight face "the greatest healthcare law the U.S. has ever seen?" The Republicans have had 7 years to come up with something and they spent a weekend to come up with a piece of trash to present to the Senate.

"You shitheels?" I'm an independent... and I'm certainly tired of hearing people blame the other party for their pitfalls and then do the same damn thing. One party needs to step up and be the better man and break this shit show of a cycle.

You are allowed Cadillac plans, they would be platinum plans.

We are absolutely talking about obiecare. Remember, the Dems spent that same weekend cheering for obiecare to be spared. Not one single change could be allowed or millions would die. Remember that? Fine, let's get a law in the works making every one of them, their families and staff go get themselves some of that good stuff. The Dems spent 7 years begging for obiecare to be fixed. It wasn't so let them live with it too.

No... that's not what we are talking about. How can I discuss this with you if you can't even understand the difference between a Healthcare bill and a what equates to a poison pill for the current healthcare bill?
