Trump wants to eliminate income tax, but replace it with tariffs on imported goods.

Sounds great. You have two problems if you use tariffs to do it.

First, you'd toast your domestic manufacturing's export market with tariffs. Any tariff we levy, they'll levy. Making the price of our manufactured goods overseas double if we lay a 100% tariff. They could only sell domestically, which would severly hamper trade and damage about 1 in 3 full time jobs in the US.

Second, if you're successful in bringing back manufacturing and heavy industry to this country, providing domestic alternatives to import products......then you destroy your tax base under Trump's tariff proposal. With a diminished import market, there's less tariff revenue.

The more successful you are at focusing manufacturing domestically, the less tariff revenue you receive from diminished imports.

So Trump's tax proposal would be wildly unstable, damage about 1 in 3 full time jobs, and ultimately fail as a replacement for the income tax.
The economic ignorance of this man-child and his followers is dangerous.

They seem to think that we can just hide from the rest of the planet.

Wuhan was funded with Trump signing the damn bill. If he didn't check to see what he was signing, who's fault is it? Who's lame ass excuse is it?
Trump is not responsible for the wuhan lab or the covid 19 virus

But lib superhero Dr Fauci is

Who TF said he was responsible for the virus. You're twisting my words. What I said was the lab was funded by Trump when he signed the spending bill(s) that included the funding.

Stop trying to spin this. Trumps is responsible for that.

Which is a clumsy and not very clever way of blaming trump

He signed the damn bill that funded it. Without knowing what TF he was fund, maybe. But he still signed the damn bill into law. It's not a clever way of blaming him. It's called holding him accountable for his actions.

Something you Trump supporters refuse to do.

Absolutely

And unless trump was supposed to know that Fauci was a liberal idiot for requesting the money, all the blame goes to the pinhead doctor

Huh? I've said simply that we import more from China than we export to China. Thus, the trade deficit.

"The deficit with China decreased $102.9 billion to $279.4 billion in 2023. Exports decreased $6.2 billion to $147.8 billion and imports decreased $109.1 billion to $427.2 billion. The deficit with Canada decreased $12.2 billion to $67.9 billion in 2023."

What about this do you find so objectionable?

A trade war with china hurts the chicoms more than America

Its in our best national interests to not rely on china for anything

Putting at least an 85% tariff on EVERYTHING imported, from EVERY country hurts us far worse than it does the 'Chicoms'.

Canada is our number 1 trading partner. And to make up 2.5 trillion in revenue, we'd need to tariff everything export to us as well.

You're not quite grasping the scope of what Trump is proposing. Or the stupidity of it.

We are not going to do that

The tariffs will be aimed primarily at china

Well his plan would certainly make the price of goods skyrocket… aka inflation. So you saying it sounds good makes no sense unless you’re a fan of inflation. Please clarify your stance
If used properly the tariffs should be applied to the increased price so that the consumer doesn't feel the pain but that doesn't happen in our corrupt system.

That's at least what Trump is proposing. With estimates of the tariffs on EVERYTHING being between 85% and 125%.

And we don't do enough business with China to cover 2.5 TRILLION dollars in Income tax revenue. We only import 320 billion from China.

You really have no idea what you're talking about, do you?

I mean...the idiocy of the policy is beyond belief. Can you imagine, just to name an item, how much your writing pens would cost if they were made here instead of in China?

What will likely happen is that even if the tariffs are increased to 133%, companies will continue to import because it will still be cheaper than paying wages and benefits here.
Can't argue with this....what's true is true.

The higher tariffs should be applied primarily to communist china but not to products made by our allies

We only export around $200 bil to china, mostly food and raw material, while importing almost $700 billion

So we win any tariff battle with Peking

That's not what Trump is proposing. BUt instead, replacing ALL of income tax with trade tariffs. That's 2500 Billion annually.
