The economic ignorance of this man-child and his followers is dangerous.Sounds great. You have two problems if you use tariffs to do it.
First, you'd toast your domestic manufacturing's export market with tariffs. Any tariff we levy, they'll levy. Making the price of our manufactured goods overseas double if we lay a 100% tariff. They could only sell domestically, which would severly hamper trade and damage about 1 in 3 full time jobs in the US.
Second, if you're successful in bringing back manufacturing and heavy industry to this country, providing domestic alternatives to import products......then you destroy your tax base under Trump's tariff proposal. With a diminished import market, there's less tariff revenue.
The more successful you are at focusing manufacturing domestically, the less tariff revenue you receive from diminished imports.
So Trump's tax proposal would be wildly unstable, damage about 1 in 3 full time jobs, and ultimately fail as a replacement for the income tax.
They seem to think that we can just hide from the rest of the planet.
