Victory: Wisconsin Teachers Just Voted to Disband Their Teachers Union

FoxNews at least tells the story correctly, from the link above: "Teachers from one of Wisconsin’s largest unions have jumped ship — voting overwhelmingly to abandon the group in the latest in a string of setbacks for the struggling labor movement following Gov. Scott Walker’s union overhaul two years ago.

The decision this week to disband by members of the Kenosha Education Association came after the organization was stripped of its certification and told it had lost its power to bargain for base wages with the district. The group was decertified after missing a key deadline in the annual reapplication process."

The members are free to join any other union, and that has been ignored by the poster and the source.

The better informed among us already understand that since it's been Federal Law since FDR.

Fox does cater to a more mature market

By allowing multiple sides to present their view, all Fox does is create chaos and confuse people. And even worse, it can be dangerous because they cause people to question our government, which makes better choices for us than we do. We really need the fairness doctrine to crush Fox and the new media and return to the sane times when people only heard the reasonable liberal correct side of every story.

You are the less informed and more partisan motivated posters on the Board

I outed the internal consistency of the OP.

Move along, folks, Fox has fucked up as usual.

You can only use & abuse the Taxpayers for so long. The Teacher Unions have created this inevitable backlash. They simply got greedy. And they made it all about hating Republicans and promoting the Democratic Party. The People have soured on that partisan shite. The Unions would have been much smarter in remaining neutral and not being beholden to either political party. The Taxpayers are now rebelling against them. They played everything so wrong. Their days are numbered.

If teachers give up their unions in Wisconsin will the school districts offer better working conditions to keep the teachers from reforming unions? Seems like teachers will now be able to play one threat against the other. Unions were formed to create better conditions, but if the state now in their attempt to keep unions out create better working conditions who was the winner?

Teacher Unions are no longer in a position of strength. Many alternatives to Public Education are out there now. Somewhere along the line they forgot who they worked for. And unfortunately, that's all too common in the Public Sector. They don't work for the Republicans or the Democrats. They work for the People. And the People are fed up with them. The best thing would be to weed out the greedy political partisans. Those teachers have to go. It's your choice if you want to work for the Government or not. It's not the Private Sector. You won't likely get rich. But you can live well. The Teacher Unions' glory days are now over. And they themselves have contributed quite heavily to that happening.

The main issue with them is they basically are employment agencies for the weakest teachers. The unions spend thier time protecting people who should be let go due to ineffectiveness, but considering union work is the pefect escape for crappy teachers, they are basically protecting thier own.

So...where do the good teachers go?

They teach. They may be in the union, but they are not reliant on it.

Unions replace merit with seniority. They coddle the least effective of the bunch, who usually make up the majority of the union leadership.

Teachers should be judged just like any other employee.

On merit and job performance.

In a democracy strength is in numbers, so we organize. Manufacturers into the NAM, business into the Chamber of Commerce, doctors into the AMA, disabled veterans into the DAV and so on. All neatly joined for power. Here's a chance for Wisconsin to show America there is no need for teacher unions and bingo, but should the need arise and maybe it will, then back to unions, and a lesson has been learned. In the meantime for America it is another, living in a democracy learning opportunity.

You are mixing voluntary with involuntary associations as if they are the same. They are not.

None of your far righties are better informed or part of a more mature market.

The statement above by Jarred Jaraxle contradicted the implication of the OP. (No one has proved differently).

This particular union failed to take care of its members, so they will go to a more hard core union, which is the American way and hated by business.

Tis what it tis, far right reactionaries.

Business can handle hard core unions, or go out of business. Politicians pander to them for their votes and campaign contributions, to the detriment of the taxpayers. That is why public service unions should not be allowed to exist.

Don't teachers in the US need a union to help them defend themselves against false charges by pupils? Charges of sexual harassment or racial abuse? A constant hazard in the UK and to a lesser extent in Sweden.

this.

:clap2:

Unions are a menace to the country. For whatever good they may have done in the realm of safer working condidtions and better pay, they've morphed into a malignancy that needs to be purged.

No, because those charges tend to be true. The school administartion is supposed to protect it's staff.

Nope, that is what lawyers are for.

Unions are on the downslide anywhere anyone has an option – is this any surprise.
Teachers are going to be no different. There is a reason that such a small portion of people belong to them now – they no longer represent the interests of the employees.

And by "anywhere anyone has an option", you mean jurisdictions have de facto banned labor unions.
