Visiting veterans in wheelchairs storm closed war memorials

Establishing a beachhead, a few of the remaining WWII heros easily took the memorial from the pussy liberals who wanted to keep Americans out of national parks and other dedicated sites such as this one.

One spry veteran could be heard crying, "This is for not compromising!", as he wrist locked the liberal into submission.....

There is one silver lining to this shameful attempt by the Obamanoids to turn WWII vets into ShutDown Power Boys: it backfired big time.

One would think after the negative reaction to keeping school kids from visiting the White House, they'd have learned their lesson...but they have so much contempt for the "little people" that they don't think anyone connects the dots.

It looks like the Greatest Generation is going to save the U.S. once again:

After a group of veterans broke down the barricades at the national World War II Memorial Tuesday afternoon, organizers of one Hero Flight Network group told BuzzFeed it wasn’t the last Washington would hear from them. Veterans are plotting another protest at the same place Wednesday, and expressed interest in staging similar events at sites across the nation’s capital, including the Lincoln Memorial — an act of civil disobedience that would likely pour fuel on the already highly flammable politics of the government shutdown.

“We have people here that are 80 and 90 years old and they closed down all the bathrooms?” said Tony Nussbaum, a 25-year veteran of the Air Force from Iowa and a leader of the state’s Hero Flight group. “I’m about to just start pissing on the trees.”

The World War II Memorial on the National Mall became a political battlefield Tuesday, with conservatives excoriating Democrats for the monument’s closure as they escorted busloads of war veterans past bewildered park rangers and into the shuttered monument.

On Wednesday, the scene could repeat itself when groups from the Honor Flight Network — a national charity that brings aging World War II veterans to visit the national monument to the conflict they fought in — are scheduled to arrive at the massive outdoor memorial. Meanwhile, veterans have pondered staging a similar protest at the Lincoln memorial, said Jamie Miller, a five-year veteran of the Marine Corps and another organizer of the Iowa group that stormed the World War II memorial Tuesday.

“We are thinking about jumping the Lincoln memorial too,” he said. “If Lincoln was a war memorial I would do it in a heart beat.” ...

Veterans Plot To Expand Revolt Against Government Shutdown

nice post.

The news this morning is that more veterans are on their way to the memorials. This is going to turn into a real black eye for obama. There isn't enough personnel to keep the memorials open, but somehow there is enough to block access.

The partial government shutdown is like the sequester, designed to cause the maximum amount of pain to ordinary Americans. obama is using this to keep Americans off their own property.

800,000 Government employees were sent home yesterday. These are the employees that the rightwing media has been mocking as non-essential. Being non-essential does not mean your job is unimportant, it means that there would be no immediate safety or security compromises if you were not there.

Sorry conservatives, but Government Employees who man our parks and monuments are not essential. Nobody dies if monuments are closed. The National Mall is either open or it is closed. In this case, it is closed.

Republicans whine because this is a government function that the public sees and complains about. Republicans would prefer that the government functions that are shut down be ones the public does not miss right away

800,000 useless leeches were sent home yesterday.

AFAIC, we should never bring them back.

Yes...we know how Republicans feel about public employees. That is why it is so easy for them to furlough them out of spite

It may be important to you... it may be important to someone looking to have a guided tour... it is not important to the operation of government and it is not important in terms of whether the government is actually constitutionally charged to pay for you overseeing subsidy handouts or creating a commercial to inform people that milk is good for you

Hey @rdean, want to know how desperate Obama is?

Take a look at this picture.

See that? No fences, no gates, no ticket collection points, just open area in a park. Yet Obama ordered it closed, even though he knew that Honor Flight was bringing the veteran's in and had a specific request not to block access to it.

The White House and the Department of the Interior rejected a request from Rep. Steven Palazzo’s office to have World War II veterans visit the World War II memorial in Washington, the Mississippi Republican told The Daily Caller Tuesday.
Palazzo helped the veterans commit an act of civil disobedience against the Park Service Tuesday, when the heroes stormed through barricades around the closed memorial. (Related: WWII vets storm closed memorial as GOP congressman reportedly distracts cops)
The veterans were visiting the memorial as part of Honor Flight, a non-profit that provides veterans free transport to the nation’s capital to visit the memorials to the wars they fought in.
“We got the heads up that they will be barricaded and specifically asked for an exception for these heroes,” Palazzo told TheDC. “We were denied and told, ‘It’s a government shutdown, what do you expect?’ when we contacted the liaison for the White House.”
Obama admin. knew about WWII veterans' request, rejected it | The Daily Caller

And you support him.

You support Obama shutting down scenery to score political points.

You support Obama denying veterans access to a memorial dedicated to them in order to score political points.

Take a look at this and tell me why it needed to be barricaded. Take a look at this and tell me how Republicans hate old people and veterans. Take a look at this and admit you are a complete hack, and apologize to the universe for your existence.

You think there are no police or attendants walking around there? God you're dumb.

First rule of holes, stop digging.

You are in a hole, yet you keep digging.

Funding for the WWII memorial is entirely private, it is open 24 hours a day, and Obama ordered it closed to score points, and you keep supporting him, and trying to blame Republicans.

They even hired people to protest the WWII vets, and you blame Republicans.

There are also the park rangers who explain the significance of what you're looking at, those that will clean up the litter, on stand-by for violence/vandalism, etc at the National Monuments. In National Parks it's a bit more dicey with staircases, lighted paths, lodges, mitigation experts etc..

If this goes on for a couple of weeks, I may take a week off and go out to the Canyon. Fall/Winter is not only the best time to visit in my view but it's also the time when you can see a lot more wildlife. After a few weeks off, the trails will be rehabilitated. Nice. They should shut down some parks for 2 weeks every year in my view. Monuments; not so much.

That explains why the park service admitted it was wrong, doesn't it?

These veterans came by bus all the way from Mississippi.

Reublicans are thumping their chests saying....we really showed Obama
Vets got to see the WWII memorial
Our shutdown didn't hurt anyone

That is a long bus ride to see one memorial. The WWII memorial is good for about an hour of reflection. Those vets did not get to visit the Air and Space museum where they could have seen aircraft from the war, they did not get to visit the USMC museum (GREAT museum by the way), the American History museum......ALL shut down in a Republican hissy fit

The charity that brought them in is called Honor Flight for a reason, and it ain't because they hire buses.

That is a guess, but even if it is true 800 thousand out of 4.1 million doesn't worry me.

You ever been there dick weed? Normally there are no attendants there, police patrol the mall but have no one posted at each monument full time.

Visiting veterans storm closed war memorials - The Washington Post

The elderly veterans piled off the chartered buses in front of the World War II Memorial, some in wheelchairs, some using canes, all determined to pay homage to each other and their fallen comrades from more than half a century ago.

Metal barricades and signs announcing a closure due to the shutdown of the federal government awaited them.

----------------------------------

Just the beginning. Remember when Boehner said he got 98% of everything he wanted, but when the economy was downgraded, it was Obama's fault?

The GOP Teanut plan isn't to help the country, the plan is to bring it down.

Michelle Bachman was there too.

Hey dumb ass, why do you think the call the program HONOR FLIGHT? Hint, they don't ride fucking buses to DC.

It's high time this regime learns the monuments belong to the people not the fucking government. Spending money to errect barriers to block normal outside access is typical of the dear leader to try to make things worse than they really are. FUCK HIM!

The closings of the the memorials is just Obama's way of punishing people that would defy him. These memorials were always open 24/7, They stayed open during the last government shutdowns. In fact they were still open 24/7 when the idiot lady sprayed the green paint on them. No this is just the Obama' Administrations way of being spiteful.
