was there a Germany before the year 1871?

of course there was!

under different names

There was no one nation state of Germany. Lots of small states, kingdoms dukedoms etc.

I visited the mural in the Paulus Church in Frankfurt. Which also depicted the birth of democracy. Till the Prussians put a stop to that.

Why can’t we call them by their name?
We don’t call China or Japan by anything close to their “real” names either. Just a mix of history and language

Germany’s called many wildly different names in various languages due to the fact that it wasn’t a united nation until relatively recently history-wise

It’s called Allemagne in French

long time there was no Irish state, but there was Ireland!

do you. hate Germany so much that you insist it did not exist?

Germ Ze Bra is so ignorant .

Prior to 1866 there was no Germ Land in the accepted sense of a unified state .
Simple fact . And not 1871 as you lazily and wrongly indicate .
The German Empire, the first time most of Germany united into a single state, was founded in Versailles after the end of the Franco-Prussian war in 1871

The Holy Roman Empire of German Nation does not become less German just because Germany hating morons ignore the full name of our German-Roman Empire. What if we say United States, do people start to think this is not America?
The form of government has absolutely nothing to do with the existence of the nation, even if it is federalism on steroids.

Alright then. Germany “as we know it today.

We could parse this topic out of existence.

German nations!

for centuries!

would you say that there was no Ireland

just because it is split ….

No hate involved. Simply reciting facts. Bismarck had to fight three wars to get all the independent German regions to fall into line behind Prussia.

During WWI each region had their own awards that they issued and they also all had different uniforms. So yes, there was a German culture, but even there it was different from region to region.
