The US department of state has praised the Sudanese government’s efforts to combat human trafficking operations. A report issued by John Kerry, the US Secretary of State said that Sudan has made advanced steps toward fighting the phenomena.

“The periodical report of the department of the state aims to encourage governmental work and establish partnerships all over the world to combat modern slavery : obtaining, keeping, benefiting from the services of victims including white slavery by force or con or coercion,” a report issued by US embassy in Khartoum said.

The statement indicated the report also assessed US efforts towards trafficking in persons in conformity with similar tough measures applicable in other countries.

The statement said the government of Sudan has seriously worked over the past year to handle the human trafficking phenomenon, adding Sudan’s efforts in this connection yielded tangible results within the country and the region.

According to the US embassy in Khartoum, the US administration has acknowledged Sudan’s efforts and looks forward to working with it based on progress made in combating human trafficking.

Earlier, Sudanese Minister for Justice, Mohamed Bushara Dosa notified the UN Independent Expert in Human Rights of Sudan’s intention to create a special human trafficking prosecutor position in accordance with international standards.
