I have always been nauseated at the conspicuous and obnoxious waste of money in connection with today's proms. Historically, we rented a tux and the babe bought a new "prom" dress; we borrowed the nicest car in the family, went to the prom and one or two post-prom parties, and went home - occasionally under the influence of adult beverages.

The current extravaganzas - all paid for with money extorted from the parents - should be brought under some sane guidelines.

If you're not aware, don't miss the PROMposal. Because everything in 2019 must be MORE, the poor teen boys can't just pick up the phone anymore or ask a girl to prom in the hallway. No, PROMposals must be choreographed, carefully planned out proposals complete with some "surprise" element, gifts, flowers, and someone taping the "surprise". Otherwise, you just shouldn't even ask a girl to the prom.

How ridiculous is that?

I agree it's all too much. We have dress shops here in which girls drop almost a grand on a dress. Those shops will "register" girls from their high school to ensure no one else has her particular dress. It's just out of control.

Fakebook makes everything fake......

According to Trenton radio station WKXW, officials at Lakeland Regional High School made a decision this year to ban students from driving to their prom or renting a limo. Instead, every student must pay $15 to be driven to the prom at Rockleigh Country Club on a chaperoned bus. Socialism destroys prom: School officials ban kids from riding in limos because everyone can't afford it
Bet the kids cant wait...so exciting

I understand how this is a concern to be honest. No one wants kids to feel bad at their senior prom. The problem is the way in which it was handled. It seems there were a half a dozen ways to handle this better, or more creatively, other than just "ban limos"

I have no idea what current promes are like but your description of past promes fit mine to a T. Although there were plenty of limos present.
I was lucky enough to borrow my moms brand new Buick Riviera convertible which I was supposed to return that evening.
Boy was she pissed when I took it to Galveston for the weekend!!!
I figured apologizing was better than asking for permission...that I knew I wouldnt receive.

If the district hired a limo to take each pair to the prom that would be closer to socialism, but in these days everything seems to be socialism. The wealthier kids have an wealth- obligation to show their wealth.
