We're Killing Off Our Bees!

We've been through this before. Republicans don't believe it. God makes bees. Besides, the critters "sting". Good riddance.

Republicans mock effort to save crop pollinating Honeybees

Consider, for example, the honeybee. If you have watched television news or picked up a newspaper in the past several weeks, you've probably heard about federal funding for honeybees.

The assault on the honeybee began with the stimulus package, when CNN and other news organizations dutifully repeated GOP attacks on the inclusion of $150 million for "honeybee insurance." Columnist Charles Krauthammer went so far as to call the bill an "abomination" for including the honeybee insurance.

Now, there are a few things you need to know about the honeybee insurance. First, there was no such funding,

Back to the honeybees, and to the other point that has been absent from media coverage of earmarks: Honeybees are pretty important. See, humans need food. Without it, we die. And bees not only produce honey, they pollinate all kinds of crops -- onions, cashews, celery, strawberries, beets, broccoli, cabbage, cucumbers, apples ... you get the picture. Honeybees play an important role in our food supply, and our economy. And honeybees have been disappearing at an alarming rate in recent years, for reasons that are not fully known.

According to a study by two Cornell University professors, honeybee pollination accounted for $14.6 billion worth of crops annually between 1996 and 1998.

Honeybee research doesn't sound so funny now, does it?

Unsurprisingly, MediaMatters is wrong.

How the Senate Wants to Spend Your Money | RedState
$150 million for honey bee insurance (Pg. 102 of Senate Appropriations Committee report: “The Secretary shall use up to $ 50,000,000 per year, and $150,000,000 in the case of 2009, from the Trust Fund to provide emergency relief to eligible producers of livestock, honey bees, and farm-raised fish to aid in the reduction of losses due to disease, adverse weather, or other conditions, such as blizzards and wildfires, as determined by the Secretary”)

...but Rderp likes the lie, so he believes it.

Interesting phenomenon.

I doubt that bees are going anywhere though. You would be surprised how good at life is when it comes to pressing on and, as pointed out, we are already researching the problem and looking for solutions.

Don't know why this lingers on as a question.. Shouldn't we have SOME answers by now?

First heard warnings about 10 years ago.. WHY IN hell isn't there some certainty on this?

Fuck Deanie and his honeybee insurance.. We need the science on this yesterday...

I'm amazed that the "pollution" scam is still used by the scientists hired by the radical left. Anybody in the business knows that the killer of honey bee hives is the mite that lodges in the bee's thorax. Honey bee people have been treating hives with various medication for years.

"Anybody in the business knows".

That's how Republicans find things out. Nothing to do with useless "research".

It's amazing that democrats are still going to deny science and the existence of a mite that's killing the bees! Why are democrats so mired in myth?
