What are your thoughts on the NRA?

I'm debating a life membership at the moment and was curious as to everyone's thoughts on the NRA. Any life members here? Anyone completely against the NRA but recommends another gun rights association?
They just came out with a flex payment method for membership and I'm debating it now because its affordable both short and long term.
What are your thoughts?
They are the most powerful and most influential pro-gun lobbying force in the USA.
I won't support an organization that blatantly lies and uses scare tactics on its' own members. Paying someone to email me crazy propaganda? Nope.

They don't lie.

"What are your thoughts on the NRA?"

They need to get out of politics and get back to guns.

American Rifleman is an excellent publication and well worth the membership fee, pity it's full of crazy, delusional, tinfoil hat conspiracy theories and lies about the president 'taking away' guns.

Claims of impending gun confiscation is much better for gun sales than any advertisement ever could be. That's why gun manufacturers give a lot more to the NRA and right wing politicians than they spend on any other kind of marketing expense.

Anyone who doesn't realize that gun confiscation is the end game, is naive at best.

you bet PredFan , confiscation and disarmed populace is what the left , progressives in Americas want . Same as was done to the English over in ol'blighty . As the lefties pursue the goal of disarming Americans they will slowly neuter the guns that Americans have by imposing magazine bans , ammo bans , imposing ergonomic restrictions on guns like the AR15 like some states have done .

and as far as pushing guns for the manufacturers , well , from what I hear , 'mrobama' has been the best gun salesman the gun manufacturers have ever had !!!

This is what the NRA knows and the left hides, it's how disarming the country eventually will work:

A violent act is committed with a gun.

More gun control is introduced, law abiding gun owners are the only ones affected by the law, so rights and liberties are eroded.

Another violent act is committed with a gun.

More gun control is introduced, law abiding gun owners are the only ones affected by the law, so rights and liberties are eroded.

This continues until one of two things happen; either guns are removed from the possession of Americans, or due to regulations, it is no longer practical for a private citizen to own a gun.

Anyone who doesn't understand this truth is either dangerously naive, or an idiot.

Just because they aren't knocking on your door today, doesn't mean gun confiscation isn't the end game.

Like how the Democrats use fear with their constituency by telling them that unless they give money then the Tea Party will put all the Blacks back into slavery, or something? I doubt the filthy Democrats have never sent out a fund raising request and not used the fear factor.

Actually the greater amount of money the NRA raises comes from individual members and fundraisers. There are about six million individual members. The firearms manufacturers and distributors are not that big of a factor. Your ignorance on this is just an example of the hate some Americans have for the Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

There is a real fear that unless we are aggressive about guarding our Constitutional rights then they will be incrementally taken away from us. Unfortunately in America with our political system that means buying the vote of the politicians. The Left is not hesitate to do the same thing with their interest. For instance, the greedy unions give about a billion dollars to the filthy Democrats every national election cycle and it is good that the NRA can counter that a little bit.

The difference is that the tea party is actually working to limit civil rights and the ability of minorities to vote, and has had some success in their efforts. Nobody is trying to take your guns. If they were, you could name one person who has had their guns confiscated. You can't. Gun confiscation is just more made up crap like death panels, FEMA prisons, and Benghazibenghazibenghai.

My thoughts are that the NRA used to be a good organization concerned with gun training, safety, hunting regulations and sharing gun related information

Then they realized that there was no money in that and began fear mongering that the evil government was going to seize your weapons and only armed citizens can keep the government in check

"From my cold dead fingers" made the NRA billions

Don't post stupid things like this. Once again it makes you look like a fool.

The NRA is a grassroots organization of Americans concerned about Constitutional rights.

Unlike the filthy Left Wing unions that force their members to contribute the NRA is voluntary.

I join because they are effective. For instance, they are the ones that put pressure on the stupid ass ATF to rescind the M-855 ammo ban. That is what I pay my money for. I think it was the NRA lobbying in a few Southern states in 2000 that kept that idiot Al Gore from becoming President and that scumbag Clinton even admits it was the NRA that took away his Democrat Congress. All good things for America.

The Left doesn't want to admit that the NRA is a grassroots freedom organization so they have invented this false narrative that the NRA is controlled by evil firearms corporation and they use fear mongering to get money. The typical Left lies and misrepresentations that we hear all the time.

Anybody who does fall for those conspiracy theories is stupid.

I was a member for decades. Quit when their focus was shifted from safe enjoyable use of guns to anything it takes to sell more guns. Even the most adamant gun enthusiast knows there are some people who should never have a gun. The NRA fights every effort to protect the public from crazies with guns. I would hope that some day I can rejoin, but that doesn't look like it will be any time soon.

They realize, as you should, that you cannot give an inch. The gun grabbers will always want more.

That's stupid. Grow up.

THE SKY IS FALLING......THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!!!!!!!!

yep , that is how it works PredFan , England was disarmed as far as handguns go in 1998 . Now you can only have an approved long gun and that in approved safe storage . Ammo storage in another approved safe storage . English coppers [kings men] then have the power to enter a registered gun owners home at any time , unannounced to inspect to see if you are following 'their' rules . I mention 'england' all the time , some may be annoyed , sorry if I offend but whats been done in 'england' is the plan for the USA .
