So if the wealthy elite control our lives and the government, the liberals want to control the government? Yea, pretty sure that won't work out too well.

Liberals want to prevent abuses of individual liberties.
Since the wealthy elite have a monopoly on necessary capital for production, then we all have to conbine forces to resist them. And that is what we created government for, to defend us.
The fact the wealthy elite have now also taken over government as well, means we have to try harder.
It does not mean we give up.
We have to take back government.
We have to prevent government from abusing us with lies, like Iraqi WMD, so that they can make us afraid and willing to buy their ridiculous and expensive weapons.
We need to stop them from wasting our money on useless weapons, and spend it on better things like education, health care, housing, etc.

It would seem in today's world, a liberal supports social legislation that benefits all people; where the right wants to limit their support to their own at the expense of everyone else and not particular as to how that goal is accomplished even employing the definite use of fascism.

The question may be simple but I don't believe the answer is. I think most liberal people generally believe a larger gov't is the answer to most of our problems, if not all. The extent to which a person believes that across the wide variety of issues and problems we face as a society, looking to gov't as the solution pretty much indicates how much of a liberal a person is. And a person may be more liberal on some issues and less so on others.

IMHO, Liberals inclined to support more restrictions and limitations on our individual rights and freedoms, again varying to some degree depending on the issue. It's funny, they accuse the Right as being fascist yet it is they who want getter gov't control, which is the hallmark of Fascism. They want higher taxes and more intervention into our lives and they believe in equity more than equality under the law and in the marketplace.

Ten years ago I may have agreed with you on spending money on useless weapons. Considering where education has been heading, healthcare (meaning CDC) wants to get political and "housing" gets translated to housing the homeless, I'm all for wasting money on useless weapons.

Most people have the definitions of liberal, progressive, conservative, and left and right wing, totally wrong.

There are 2 possible different meanings of liberal.
Before the US, liberal meant one who defends individual liberties, as in the French revolution.
After the US constitution, liberal mean one who does federally what the constitution does not prohibit, vs a conservative who does only what the constitution specifically authorizes.

A progressive is just one who tries to improve the Rule of Law to make rights more protected.

Left wing means trying to empower all equally, which right wing tries to support the elite over the masses.

A lefty is in favor of more govt control & less personal or individual rights as the "greater good" is given superior position over our lives all the way to totalitarianism. Communism, fascism & feudalism are all leftist inspired.
The right is in favor of personal freedom & minimal govt interference. Period. Freedom from being told what to do & it places individual rights over the "collective good".
Both libertarians & liberals would fall under the right if definitions weren't constantly changed by progressives.

Liberals are more concerned with helping the innocent than punishing the guilty. IMHO, every child in this country is entitled to decent food, housing, healthcare, and education, regardless of their parents ability to provide those things.
